Devon Community Foundation has awarded a grant from the community fund to The Nest Southwest CIC to provide ongoing support and information to birthing families in the Exeter, Exmouth and surrounding areas. The grant will be used to continue their work holding weekly Pregnancy Well-being Sessions online to support pregnant women and their partners stuck in self-isolation at home during the pandemic.

Unique Exeter painting sold for fire fundraising

A painting depicting everyday life in Exeter’s Southernhay district has been auctioned to raise funds for a new cultural tribute after the Cathedral Yard fire.

Property Search Group wanted to bring together the city’s law firms to raise money by commissioning and auctioning the painting, created by Devon artist and illustrator Sara Nunan.

Solicitors and colleagues gathered at the Mercure Exeter Southgate on Thursday (March 30) for the auction, conducted by TV’s Homes under the Hammer auctioneer Scott Gray.

Art project rises out of Royal Clarence fire

Built up in 1769, burnt out in 2016, the tragedy of the fire at Exeter’s Royal Clarence Hotel has left a scar that’s both physical and psychological in our city.

Yet after destruction comes renewal, a theme that local sculptor Martin Staniforth (known as ‘morth’) is exploring in his creative work.

Martin said: “I’ve noticed that after disaster strikes, often we see nature begin the healing process as tiny plants start to fill the cracks and wasteland left behind. Disaster and renewal are part of the circle of life.”

Members of Exeter’s legal community have gathered in Southernhay to launch a campaign to support Devon Community Foundation, as it develops a cultural tribute following the Cathedral Yard fire.

Property Search Group had the idea to bring together the city’s law firms to raise money, by commissioning a painting of Southernhay and then auctioning it. The painting depicts a ‘day in the life’ of the area, traditionally the city’s legal hub.

Following weeks of terrible weather and high rainfall there are many areas of Devon where people are suffering the consequences of flooding.

Devon Community Foundation celebrates its Volunteer of the Year Awards

Devon Community Foundation’s Volunteer of the Year Awards took place on Thursday 10 November at the RAMM in Exeter. Celebrating the outstanding work of volunteers and groups across Devon, the winners included Farming Community Network, Scoot-A-Long, Moorvision, Vocal Advocacy, HMS Heroes, Devon Rape Crisis Service and Crossroads Care Torbay.

Devon Community Foundation awards grant to St Sidwell’s Community Centre

Devon Community Foundation has awarded £8,053 to St Sidwell’s Community Centre to appoint a part-time worker to develop a sustainable vocational and life-skills training programme for the centre’s volunteers.
