Work starts on Decoy Link Road

Galliford Try has been awarded the £2.6 million contract to build the scheme which will widen and realign the existing Kingskerswell Road, and create a signal controlled crossing over the rail bridge. It will also improve safety along the busy route for pedestrians and cyclists, with a new shared cycleway and footway.

The scheme, which was awarded £1.8 million of Department for Transport Local Pinch Point funding, will join the South Devon Link Road at the Aller interchange.

Home Secretary praises 101 review in Devon and Cornwall

Police and crime commissioner Tony Hogg’s review of the 101 police non-emergency service in Devon and Cornwall will be used to help improve the system in other parts of the country. Home Secretary Theresa May has praised the work done by Mr Hogg and his OPCC team and confirmed that the Home Office will urge other forces to consider adapting the review findings and recommendations in their own areas. Cullompton-based logistics company, Kay Transport, part of Palletways, Europe’s largest dedicated network for the express delivery of palletised freight, has just announced that it will now be offering a full range of distribution services to Austria.

A Devon mum has created a new website, www.playmapp.co.uk , to detail the locations of free places for children to play.

Initially covering the whole of Devon, PlayMapp features over 600 child-friendly sites.

4,000 respond to budget consultation

More than 4,000 people have taken part in Exeter City Council's 'Stronger Exeter' budget consultation.

Council Leader Pete Edwards said he was overwhelmed by the response from the public.

"We have got some very tough decisions to make over the coming months so it is good to know that people in the city are getting involved and making their voices heard," he said.

Energy efficient homes linked to asthma

The drive for energy efficient homes could increase asthma risks, according to new research.

Led by a team at the University of Exeter Medical School, the research has found that a failure by residents to heat and ventilate retrofitted properties could lead to more people developing the respiratory condition.
