Virtual worlds similar to those experienced by game-players of the global phenomena Minecraft and SimCity could be used to help test potential new water infrastructure development in the UK.

Clyst St Mary Primary pupils visit Crealy's field of 22,000 pumpkins

Clyst St Mary Primary School children made a very special visit to Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park’s pumpkin field on Friday last week (3 October).

Mrs Herbert and her Year 2 class were transported by tractor and trailer to a secret location where 22,000 pumpkins scatter the East Devon countryside.

Police appeal following spate of burglaries

Police in Mid Devon are appealing for information following a number of house burglaries which may be connected. The first occurred sometime between Tuesday 30 September and Thursday 2 October at a property in Bramford Speke.

A garage at the property was entered and a ‘Karakoram’ mountain bike valued at £900 was stolen. Sometime on Tuesday 8 October a property at Three Horse Shoes, Cowley near Exeter was entered via an insecure front door whilst the occupant was in the rear garden.

Planning for emergencies in Mid Devon

A Planning for Emergencies Fair has been organised for residents of Mid Devon.

This is so that individuals and communities can plan should a major emergency event occur to them or in their community.

The free event is to be held on Thursday 16 October at Tiverton Town Hall. The ‘drop in’ event is organised by Mid Devon District Council and the Environment Agency and runs from 3pm to 7pm.

A local energy co-op have signed an agreement with Exeter veg-box scheme and online farm shop Shillingford Organics to set-up the city’s first ever source of community-owned electricity – and in turn create an income for much needed community projects.

Exeter Community Energy (ECOE) is getting local people to team up and invest in solar panels which will supply the farm with cheap electricity. By selling electricity to the farm, they will create an income which can be used for community projects that tackle fuel poverty and energy efficiency.

Exeter College is part of a collaborative group staging Connected Exeter - a digital design weekend - across the city on 18 and 19 October.

Working with the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM), Exeter, along with the Phoenix, the Met Office and the Fab Lab at Exeter Library, the college will stage a number of design-based challenges in its Centre for Creative Industries (CCI) building situated off Queen Street, across the weekend.

Greater caution appears to be being exercised across the South West housing market as price expectations hit the lowest level since April 2013, according to the latest RICS Residential Market Survey.

Although price momentum remains positive, and has been positive over the last three months – with 47 percent more respondents seeing a rise in prices, a more modest figure of 9% more chartered surveyors are predicting a rise in prices over the coming three months. Public consultation on proposals to reform the way health services are delivered in Devon will be the focus of review by Devon County Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
