Ashfords LLP bucks trend to top league table

South West law firm Ashfords is topping the table for completed deals in the first half of 2013. The firm bucked the trend as the market experienced a year-on-year decline in volumes.

Research by Experian revealed that Ashfords was the most successful law firm in the whole of the South West for completing deals so far this year.

With the news that employers receive an average of 46 applications for every graduate vacancy, one graduate is counting his blessings after securing an internship at the very organisation he went to for careers advice.

A recent report by High Fliers stated that although there has been a rise in employment opportunities for graduates this year, competition for graduate jobs remains ‘intense’.

The National Apprenticeship Service has launched a raft of new measures designed to help guide employers through the process of recruiting an apprentice. This follows yesterday’s announcement of the extension of the £1,500 Apprenticeship Grant for Employers of 16-24 year olds for another year. The grant, which is designed to help businesses (with fewer than 1000 employees) to recruit apprentices, has so far enabled over 30,000 young people to start an Apprenticeship. Changes made to the way social housing is allocated in Teignbridge

On Tuesday 30 July, Teignbridge District Council’s Executive approved a series of amendments to its social housing allocation policy.

The changes, which come into effective on 1 April 2014, are aimed at creating a fairer system while giving people access to the most suitable housing advice and support that is right for them, especially in more rural areas. €6.3m European Research Council success for Exeter five

Five early career academics from the University of Exeter are celebrating receiving European Grants worth a total of €6.3 million to explore topics ranging from how states encroach on civil liberty; how stars build magnetic fields; and how data intensive science will change research in the digital age.
