Passed away peacefully on 28 August 2013 aged 90 years, formerly of Whipton Barton House. Wife of the late Edward (Ned), beloved sister of Rita, treasured aunt of Trish and Dave, Leslie and Yvonne. A loving great-auntie and great-great-auntie and a very dear friend of June.

Loving wife of the late Ken, much loved mum of Hilary, Caroline, Jennifer and Julian and a much loved nan and great-nan.

Devon Venus Award winners revealed at glamorous gala evening

Following thousands of votes and over 1,432 nominations and applications the Devon Business Women Awards announced the 2013 winners at the University of Exeter's Great Hall on 5 September 2013, hosted by Celia Delaney and Tara Howard.

Cleaver-weilding man arrested in Barnstaple

A man has been arrested by police after wielding a large meat cleaver in a Barnstaple street.

At around 1.45am on Tuesday 27 August, police were called to a report of a man hitting lamp posts with a cleaver in Hughes Avenue.

On arrival, officers were confronted by the suspect who was still using the cleaver to damage lamp posts as well as other street furniture.

Officer were forced to withdraw after being threatened by the armed suspect and ensured any residents who had ventured onto the street to go back indoors while they awaited backup from firearms officers....

YouGen founder up for two prestigious Devon Venus Awards

YouGen founder Cathy Debenham has reached the final three in the Green Business and Inspirational Woman categories of the Devon Venus Awards . She will find out whether she has won at a grand awards ceremony in Exeter University’s Great Hall on 5 September 2013.

Cathy started YouGen in 2008, having noticed that it was difficult to get the practical information she needed to assess whether renewable energy was suitable for her house. Since then, the website has had nearly a million visits, and 2.5m page views.

It may not be a bumper but local vineyards are excited about a good 2013 harvest.

" We've got good crops on most varieties" says Yearlstone's vineyad manager Roger White. " The sparkling wine grapes are dripping bunches and even our cool climate reds are well laden. Yearlstone is expecting around 10 tons from it's own grapes, compared to a target of 15.

About a week ago I saw a man kneeling down at the side of the road near to my house. Wondering what he could be doing I got closer and realised there was some litter on the road, which the gentleman was picking up piece by piece and putting into a bin bag. At the time I walked on by humming along to my music and didn’t think any more about it.

Later on in the evening, though, I started thinking about what I had seen earlier that day. I thought about the area I was from in Birmingham and whether someone would do this there. The short answer is probably not.

Haytor deaths: Family pays tribute to Katherine Hooper and sons Josh and Sam

The family of Katherine Hooper has paid tribute to the young mother and her two sons, Josh and Sam, following their tragic deaths on Friday 12 July.

Katherine Hooper, 24 and Josh Patterson, aged five were killed after they fell from rocks at Haytor on Dartmoor on Friday morning. Police later discovered the body of two-year-old Sam Patterson at Ms Hooper's address in Paignton.
