Devon vaccination programme marks six-month milestone

The efforts of the staff and volunteers have been hailed as ‘incredible’ as Devon’s vaccination programme marks its six-month milestone.

More than 1.3 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been given locally in the six months since 81-year-old Kathleen Viney became the first person to have the vaccination in Devon.

Between 8 December and 30 May, 769,059 people in Devon received a first vaccine dose and 553,204 second doses have been given as part of the fastest vaccination programme in British history.

Like many others Cameron Bedford struggled to find a job during the pandemic, but he’s now fulfilling his passion for science thanks to tailored support through a government scheme.

The Exeter man, 22, is one of 1,760 people across Southern England who started on the government’s £238 million JETS – Job Entry Targeted Support – scheme over the last seven months.

Cameron, who has a biomedical science degree, is now working for Exeter University as a Laboratory Technician and is thankful for all the support he received in starting his career.

MPs left surprised by 'slicing apart' of constituencies in boundary commision proposals

MPs from Exeter and East Devon have been left surprised by proposals that would see a major shake-up of their electoral wards.

Burnthouse Lane, parts of Countess Wear, and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital are set to be moved ‘out of Exeter’ under proposals for a shake-up of England’s electoral map in 2023.
