East Devon District Council taking up residence at its new Honiton HQ

East Devon District Council is relocating to its new headquarters at Blackdown House on the outskirts of Honiton and will be open for business at 8.30am on Monday February 11, 2019. In a phased approach taking place over three weeks, staff are leaving the council’s old offices at Knowle, Sidmouth. The Sidmouth offices will cease operations and close down at 5pm on Friday February 8. Together with continuing investment to improve the council’s on-line capability, this move will mean that the council will have a presence in East Devon’s largest town,Exmouth, and it’s most central, Honiton...

A new national wellbeing plan for older people has been launched at Millbrook Village later living community in Exeter which has seen residents clock up more than 7 million steps in the space of just six weeks. Applications are open for a new town crier in Seaton. Following the retirement of the former crier in 2017, Seaton Town Council is looking for volunteers to take on this noisy and celebrated role.

New facility heralds the end of  dustbin waste going to landfill in Devon

A new waste transfer station at Bynsworthy, Barnstaple will become fully operational on Monday 11 February 2019.

The new facility will enable Devon County Council to bulk up and transfer non-recyclable ‘wheelie bin/black bag’ waste collected in the North Devon and Torridge areas away from landfill to Energy from Waste facilities where it is converted into electricity.

The new facility marks the end of household ‘black bag’ waste being sent to landfill in the county of Devon. This type of waste elsewhere in Devon is already being sent to either the Exeter Energy Recovery...

Worrying new research published in Accountancy Age has revealed that with less than two months to go until ‘Making Tax Digital’ becomes mandatory on 01 April, just 57 per cent of UK businesses are expected to be ready for the change.

Applications for grants from The Prince’s Countryside Fund close on February 21st 2019.

The Fund gives out grants twice a year, and projects in rural areas across the UK can apply for funding of up to £50,000 in the spring round of funding.

Set up in 2010 by HRH The Prince of Wales, the charity aims to improve the prospects of viability for rural communities and farm businesses. Every year the Fund gives out over £1 million in funding, and can support projects for up to three years.
