Man injured in unprovoked assault in Exeter

Police are seeking witnesses to an unprovoked assault on a man in Exeter which left him with a serious hand injury.

The victim, in his 50s, was walking his dog around 9.30pm on Saturday 17 November when the incident took place.

When he reached Hamlin Lane he was subjected to verbal abuse from five teenage boys and one girl who were hanging around in the street.

During the altercation he was pushed to the ground by one of the boys. He sustained a broken bone in his hand which required hospital treatment.

Representatives from Devon’s Health and Wellbeing Board, which oversees the strategic delivery of health and social care services in the county, have signed an ambitious Charter to end loneliness.

It’s a pledge by the Board that its partner authorities, including the NHS, Public Health, and Social Care, will do all they can to tackle the issue. At its meeting on 8 January 2019, East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee (DMC) will consider two planning applications (ref: 18/2174/MOUT and 18/2175/LBC) submitted by the Environment Agency for tidal flood defence works in Exmouth.

Woodbury Common road closure planned

Essential drainage improvements will be carried out on a section of the B3180 Woodbury Common Road this month.

The road will be closed for up to 12 days from Monday 7 January while work is carried out between Four Firs junction and Blackhill Quarry. The scheme involves the road being dug up which will make it impassable.

Those who normally use the B3180 to travel to Exeter or to connect to the A3052 will need to find an alternative route and allow extra time for their journey while the road is closed.

A signed diversion route will be in place.

Mark Twelfth Night with Tudor cooking at Exeter’s oldest building

Food, music and festive decorations will be available at Exeter’s oldest building as part of a free community event to mark Twelfth Night.

Resurfacing to resume on North Devon Link Road near Tiverton in January

Major resurfacing work will resume on the A361 North Devon Link Road near Tiverton early in the New Year.

Work on the current phase of the £5 million project ended yesterday (Thursday 20 December) and lane closures have been removed from the A361 for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

When the scheme resumes on Monday 7 January, the outside lanes of both the eastbound and westbound carriageway will be closed, from east of Gornhay Cross to west of Sampford Peverell, for one week.

Every Spring and Autumn Freemasons from around Devon meet to give support totalling in excess of £50,000 to local charities & organisations throughout the county who are in need of assistance, Cruse Bereavement Services Charity were one of the groups who were nominated by their local lodge St Michaels who meet in Dawlish and we were very grateful to receive a cheque for £1000.
