Green light to revitalise Exmouth seafront

East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee has given the green light to move forward with proposals to revitalise Exmouth seafront.

The district council, who are the landowners at Queen’s Drive, already has outline planning permission to develop the area for leisure facilities. It’s latest application - called ‘Reserved Matters’ – concerned the scale, access, appearance and landscaping of the site which was approved by councillors by ten votes to four.

Two key projects for Exmouth win council support

Two key decisions which are especially important to East Devon’s biggest town were taken by East Devon District Council last night (Wednesday December 21, 2016)

The council has agreed to invest £1.7m in modernising Exmouth Town Hall. This important building will be a new multi-service hub for Exmouth and the surrounding area. Around 40% of the district’s population lives in the Exmouth catchment area so the council realises it makes sense to provide public facing services in the town.

Exmouth regeneration chairman reiterates EDDC's commitment to the town

East Devon District Council’s Exmouth Regeneration Chairman Councillor Philip Skinner has reiterated his commitment to rejuvenate the town’s seafront at a public meeting called to discuss the future of the area.

Cllr Skinner met around 40 members of the public at the meeting about the council’s Queen’s Drive project and was able to explain to them the next stages of the proposals for the site and answer questions.

Budleigh Salterton youngsters decide on new sports facility

Voting results will now be considered by district council and Budleigh Town Council

Young people from Budleigh Salterton have had their say on a new sports facility, which is being run as a joint project between Budleigh Salterton Town Council and East Devon District Council.

In 2014, over 300 Budleigh Salterton residents gave their opinion on how to spend money on outdoor sports in the town. Their preferred choices were a new outdoor gym and foot/cycle path improvements for The Green - both of which have been put in place.

Council leader praises work of animal sanctuary

Tails will be wagging at Ferne Animal Sanctuary thanks to a donation of more than £2,000 raised by East Devon District Council’s Environmental Health Team.

The Team has held a raffle on its stall at Honiton Show over the last two years and the money was raised through selling tickets. At this year’s show, more than 200 prizes were donated by local businesses across East Devon.

'Dragons' Den' for Devon charities

Charity representatives in East Devon have the chance to take part in a unique bidding process for funds in front of a panel of “dragons” next month.

The event, which will be held at the Beehive in Honiton on Wednesday 26 October, is an opportunity for groups to pitch their ideas for funding – based loosely on the format of the hit BBC programme. Submissions need to be made by 2 October.

Charities that are invited to the event will have to answer questions from the panel, demonstrating how their projects will benefit people in the area.

East Devon District Council says news that Exeter Deaf Academy is in the frame to take over the Rolle College site in Exmouth came as a surprise to many at the authority, including some who learnt of the deal through the media first.

EDDC has issued this statement:

Exmouth is a priority for the Council and we are keen to hear more about the proposals that would bring the Deaf Academy to Exmouth. Officers from East Devon District Council’s StreetScene service have had a busy past few weeks helping find homes for 17 life-sized dinosaur models, previously roaming free in Exmouth.

New fly tipping powers approved by East Devon’s Cabinet

New powers to crack down on fly tippers who blight areas of East Devon have been approved by the district council’s Cabinet.

It means that offenders who irresponsibly fly tip their waste, can be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £400. The new controls will be used by council officers to deal with small, medium and large fly tipping offences by householders or unauthorised “man and a van” operations. Offenders issued with fixed penalties will be given the option to pay a reduced fine of £200 within ten days of receiving the notice. All offenders will also be charged the costs of...
