DEVONIANS planning Bonfire Night parties or fireworks displays this November (2019) are being urged to spare a thought for the elderly and vulnerable in their area before they host an event.

Guardian Homecare is asking people to inform any elderly neighbours they may have in their community of any potential parties and displays taking place.

Paramedics at South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust are reminding people to take care over the next week as another yellow weather warning has been issued for the South West.

The Transform Ageing programme is providing funding awards to ten social ventures in Devon – and 16 in total across the south-west – which aim to provide solutions to many of the issues faced by people in later life in the region.

The Hospiscare charity shop in Cowick Street, Exeter, has found a new lease of life since focussing on providing mobility aids alongside its usual homewares and clothing.

Devon’s political leaders are uniting to call on the Government for fairer funding for the county’s elderly and vulnerable.

They have come together to write to MPs to demand fairer funding for children’s services and adult social care.

They say the number of child protection investigations has doubled in the past 10 years while demand for social care for vulnerable adults is rising relentlessly – particularly in Devon with its large elderly population.

Bogus caller targets elderly woman in East Devon

Detectives are seeking witnesses after a bogus telephone engineer tricked his way into the Axminster home of an elderly woman and stole her purse.

The man called at the property close to Waggs Plot around 10.30am on Saturday 30 December pretending to be working on the local phone lines.

Once inside the offender stole the woman’s purse containing cash and fled the property when the victim, who is in in her 80s, said someone else was at home.
