Third time lucky for Exeter School equestrians

Exeter School equestrians are celebrating a second team entry into the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) Finals at Hickstead plus an individual pupil qualified for the prestigious Arena Eventing Competition.

Megan Bailey, Alice Bailey, Olivia Eden and Izzy Kekwick competed in the 80/85cm class at Bicton on 11 February coming second out of 60 individual competitors. This qualifies them for the Finals in May.

Exeter Junior School pupil Eliza Heard was successful in the 70/75cm individual class and her second place also puts her into the National Finals.

Equestrian team through to National Finals

Exeter School equestrian team has secured its place in the National Finals at Hickstead.

A team of four pupils from Exeter School came joint first in a National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) competition at Bicton Arena on Saturday 21 January, beating over 50 competitors.

The 90/95cm team, comprised of Olivia Eden, Celia Nowill, Emily Rix and Alice Bailey, now look forward to competing in the National Finals at Hickstead on the weekend of 28 May.

Maynard School's equestrian team crowned National Champions

Equestrian team members from the Maynard School in Exeter, the South West’s leading independent girls’ school, made the long trip to Hickstead in Sussex worthwhile when winning the NSEA Eventer’s Challenge on 3 June 2016.

This was a complete surprise for the newly crowned National Champions who had travelled to the event with low expectations and were really only looking forward to the opportunity to ride at the hallowed All England Jumping venue.

Horse trials return to Bicton Arena

Horse trials action returns to Bicton Arena on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12 when classes ranging from a BE80 training class to BE100Plus will be staged.

The competition has been specifically framed to encourage grass roots riders, those climbing through the ranks and professional riders with young or inexperienced horses.

Equestrian Mary King made MBE

Devon equestrian Mary King has been made an MBE in this year's New Year's Honours.

Mary won a team silver medal when she appeared at the Olympics for for the sixth time this summer.

She told BBC Radio Devon that receiving an MBE was a secret wish of hers and she was delighted it had now happened.

Meanwhile, professor Brian Golding, the Met Office's director of forecasting and research development has been appointed OBE for his work in predicting hazardous weather.
