Food Festival lunch a hit with Exeter Chamber members

Over 110 people attended the April networking lunch which was held at the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink. The event was sponsored by Living Coasts and Paignton Zoo and the presentation topic was sustainable fishing in the South West. The speakers included Felicity Sylvester who has over 25 years’ experience of teaching and demonstrations about seasonal local caught fish and shellfish. Felicity was a partner in Sylvester Seafoods - a trawling, potting and mussel collecting business in Appledore in 1980s and has sold a wide range of Devon smoked fish at local markets and online...

Buildings technology theme at quarterly ExIST event

The Exeter Initiative for Science and Technology (ExIST) quarterly event was held on Wednesday 15 April 2015 at the Flybe Training Academy

April’s event had a buildings technology theme with 3 presentations including ‘Building for Uncertainty’ from Mark Harvey of the Met Office, ‘Innovation to the Construction Industry’ from Andrew Dobbs of Willmott Dixon, and ‘Shake Rattle and Roll’ from Professor Paul Reynolds of the University of Exeter.

New scheme to cut city congestion

A new scheme aimed at cutting congestion in Exeter is set to launch to businesses on the 22 October at Exeter Chamber’s monthly networking lunch.

Exeter Chamber of Commerce and Devon County Council are working together to make Exeter a more sustainable city along with Exeter Chamber’s sub group ESBN (Exeter Sustainable Business Network).

By launching the new scheme together it is hoped that all three will be able to interact with local organisations, building a wider network and greater awareness for the scheme from environmentally conscious companies.

Dick Strawbridge entertains at Exeter Chamber Annual Business Dinner

A great night was had by all at this year’s Exeter Chamber Annual Business Dinner.

The dinner was sponsored by Ashfords Solicitors, Heart Fm and Old Mill Group and was held at The Sandy Park Confrence Centre, where attendees were treated to a champagne reception followed by a four-course feast.

The dinner was well attended, with over 250 guests. This year’s guest speaker, Dick Strawbridge, covered many topics on the night, including his days in the army to his first television gig hosting Scrapheap Challenge , where he won the Junkyard Megawars trophy in 2003.

Science and technology speakers give a glimpse of the future

The Chamber’s Exeter initiative for Science and Technology welcomed speakers from Greenpeace, Alcatel Lucent and the Centre for Additive Layer Manufacturing at its July event. Sixty science and technology orientated businesses attended the event held at the Innovation Centre, at the University of Exeter.

The Exeter Chamber of Commerce held their monthly networking lunch at the Mercure Southgate Hotel, Southernhay on Wednesday this week.

The speaker at this event was Paul Thomas, Head of Trading Standards. Paul gave an update on trading standards delivery at a national, regional and local level with particular focus on how regulation can support the local economy rather than prove to be a burden on business.

Exeter Chamber of Commerce joined forces with ESSENCE, Business in the Community and Business 4 Exeter Communities Group last week to deliver an afternoon of networking, presentations and workshops for business and social enterprise leaders.

This event was well attended by a range of guests and members of the Chamber, local businesses and social enterprises.
