Sandy Park, home of the Exeter Chiefs, has been confirmed as one of three venues that will form part of a triple bill of double headers to kick-off Greene King IPA’s new partnership of the RFU Championship in September.

Greene King IPA was today confirmed as the first title partner of the second tier of professional rugby in England, consolidating its position as one of the key supporters of rugby at all levels of the game.

The competition, now titled the Greene King IPA Championship to reflect the new four year partnership, has seen rapid growth since its inception in 2009...

Bateman signs for the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs have bolstered their options ahead of the new 2013/14 season with the acquisition of Greg Bateman from Championship side London Welsh.

The talented hooker, who celebrates his 24th birthday today, has agreed a two-year deal with the Devon club after spending the past two seasons with the Exiles following previous stints with Dorking, Rosslyn Park (loan) and the Harlequins Academy. Bateman is Exeter’s fifth new signing following the earlier captures of Fetu’u Vainikolo (Connacht), Dave Lewis (Gloucester), Tom James and Ceri Sweeney (Cardiff Blues). And Bateman’s move to...

New Chiefs fly-half Sweeney keen to get started

Newcomer Ceri Sweeney says he cannot wait to tackle the demands of the Aviva Premiership when he kick-starts his Exeter Chiefs career next week.

Signed during the close season from Welsh outfit Cardiff Blues, the 33-year-old fly-half is one of four newcomers Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has brought ahead of the new 2013/14 season. After five years playing in the Welsh capital with the Blues, Sweeney is keen to experience a new playing challenge and feels his move to Sandy Park will offer him the perfect opportunity of testing himself in another tough rugby environment. "I've never...

Chiefs are busy preparing "to hit the season hard", says Hepher

Exeter Chiefs assistant coach Ali Hepher is expecting the Aviva Premiership to be even tougher when it returns to full-on action in early September.

Last season the Chiefs finished sixth in arguably their toughest top flight campaign to date – an outcome which ensured the Devon club would be competing amongst Europe’s elite in the Heineken Cup once more. However, Hepher believes the 2013/14 season will see the standard rise even further and has issued a timely warning to his players of what to expect. “It always cranks up a notch,” said Hepher. “If you stand still you fall behind...

This pack of rugby "wives" are more used to their more illustrious other halves hogging all the attention, particularly from avid fans.

But the women, whose husbands all play for the top-flight Exeter Chiefs, stepped out of the shadows and into the limelight to promote a charity event.

They were helping to publicise a walk this Saturday which has been organised in aid of Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust, the only UK charity dedicated to women affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities.

Staff at Ashfords solicitors are helping with the Exeter walk, one of nine...

Again it's a dream draw for the Devon club, whose chief executive, Tony Rowe OBE, described today's announcement as "fantastic".

Exciting times ahead says Chiefs captain Tom Hayes

Exeter Chiefs captain Tom Hayes says yet more "exciting" times lie ahead for the club after another impressive year of action both in the Aviva Premiership and the Heineken Cup.

Exeter's last-day 40-39 victory over Gloucester at a packed Sandy Park, not only ensured Rob Baxter's side of sixth spot in English rugby's top division, but it guaranteed the Chiefs would be mixing it with Europe's elite again next season.

Having tasted the delights of Heineken Cup rugby for the first time during the 2012/13 campaign, Hayes insists he and his club-mates will be more than happy to...
