Hooley to leave the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs can confirm that fly-half Will Hooley is to leave the club at the end of the season and will move to RFU Championship side Bedford Blues.

The 23-year-old back has spent the past two seasons at Sandy Park, signing during the summer of 2015 from Aviva Premiership rivals Northampton Saints.

Hooley made his Chiefs debut during the 2015/16 season, coming off the bench in Exeter’s European Champions Cup encounter against ASM Clermont Auvergne at the Stade Marcel Michelin.

During his maiden season in Devon, the Cambridge-born back featured in 15 match-day...

Lions call up a 'dream come true' for Nowell

Exeter Chiefs and England star Jack Nowell says it's a "dream come true" to have been named in the British & Irish Lions squad to tour New Zealand this summer. The 24-year-old Cornishman was today named in Warren Gatland's 41-man squad for the tour, which begins on June 3 and ends on July 8. Nowell, who has scored 11 tries in 23 appearances for England, will make history by becoming the first player to be included in the squad whilst playing for the Chiefs. He is one of 16 England players named in the tour party with Wales providing 12, Ireland 11 and two from Scotland. Nowell said: "...

Harlequins 26 Chiefs 39

Good Friday turned out to be a ‘Great Friday’ as Exeter Chiefs maintained their top two status in the Aviva Premiership with victory over Harlequins.

Rob Baxter’s side produced one of their best displays of the season so far to record yet another maximum haul against the star-studded Londoners at the Twickenham Stoop.

Lachie Turner (pictured) bagged two tries on his recall to the starting line-up, while Dave Ewers, Michele Campagnaro and Henry Slade also got in on the try-scoring act for the free-scoring Devonians.

Slade and replacement Gareth Steenson completed the...

We are happy to 'win ugly' says Yeandle

It may have not been intentional, but Exeter club captain Jack Yeandle believes the Chiefs have in recent weeks found a way to win ‘ugly’. With just three rounds of the Aviva Premiership season remaining, the Devon club have guaranteed their place in the end of season play-offs – and are currently on course to have a home semi-final in the last four. However, maintaining their top two billing hasn’t always been easy, despite Rob Baxter’s side accruing maximum hauls against Sale Sharks and Bristol Rugby in their last two home games. “We have proved, not intentionally, that we can win ugly...

Chiefs are digging deep, insists Waldrom

Thomas Waldrom’s late try not only ensured maximum reward for the Exeter Chiefs against local rivals Bristol at the weekend, but it took him past a half century of touchdowns in the Aviva Premiership. The free-scoring No.8’s latest brace took him to 51 tries, the second highest for a forward in the competition’s history and only eight behind former Leicester Tigers and England flanker Neil Back on 59. The fact that 38 of those scores have come in the colours of the Chiefs shows the significant impact the 33-year-old has made since he arrived at Sandy Park from the Tigers during the summer...

Exeter Chiefs 38 Bristol Rugby 34

As the usual runners and riders position themselves for the final furlong, Exeter Chiefs have safely overcome their first seasonal hurdle by booking their place in the Aviva Premiership’s end of season play-offs.

On Grand National Day, Rob Baxter’s side notched up win number 12 of the campaign, but not before being given an almighty fright by basement battlers Bristol, who threatened to pull off a shock success in this entertaining local derby.

Thankfully, the Chiefs had too much in the tank for their near neighbours, sealing victory with a Thomas Waldrom double and further...

Rob Baxter has challenged his Exeter Chiefs players to continue driving up their standards as the club look to cement their place in this season’s Aviva Premiership play-offs.

With just four rounds of the scheduled season remaining, the Chiefs welcome local rivals Bristol Rugby to Sandy Park tomorrow for a full-blooded derby encounter (3pm).

Unbeaten in the league since late October, another maximum haul for Baxter’s side will not only guarantee a top four finish, but it will keep them firmly on course for one of the two home semi-final spots.

Baxter knows the...

Chiefs will get stronger, insists Woodburn

It's perhaps a sign of expectation levels at Sandy Park that even five-point victories are now being heavily scrutinised by Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter and his players.

Baxter admitted post-match following his side's 30-25 Aviva Premiership win over Sale Sharks that there were elements of Exeter's game that needed to be addressed - and that a repeat performance would not be looked upon favourably moving forward.

“I can’t be happy at us playing at that level and we need to shake ourselves up for the remainder the season,” said Baxter post-match at Sandy Park. “We...
