Will Chudley says Exeter Chiefs need no reminding of the threat posed by Northampton Saints in their latest Aviva Premiership encounter this Friday (3pm).

Although the Midlanders are without a win in their last three games, Jim Mallinder’s side are always a tough nut to crack on home soil and Chudley is expecting a backlash of sorts following their surprise loss at London Irish last time out.

“Going up there is very much like Sandy Park,” said the scrum-half. “It’s always a great atmosphere, they have very passionate supporters and they have a great team. We know it’s going...

Chiefs dealt another injury blow

Exeter Chiefs have been dealt another untimely injury blow with the news that lock Damian Welch is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Head coach Rob Baxter has confirmed the 33-year-old lock is to be ruled out for several months after picking up a chest injury in the recent European Champions Cup game away to ASM Clermont Auvergne.

Welch, who is undergoing surgery today on the pectoral muscle injury, has been a key member of Baxter’s side since arriving from the Scarlets back in the summer of 2012.

Hughes returns to former club

Adam Hughes says he leaves Exeter Chiefs a better player after he today confirmed he has re-joined former club Newport-Gwent Dragons on a permanent deal.

Signed in the summer of 2014 by head coach Rob Baxter, the Welshman featured nine times for the Chiefs, scoring four tries in the process.

With game time somewhat limited for the 25-year-old at Sandy Park, Hughes returned to Rodney Parade earlier this season on an initial three-month loan deal.

Now, the Newport-born back has made the switch back to his hometown club a permanent one, inking a new deal that will take...

Baxter's delight as Wallabies star signs on

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has spoken of his delight at landing the signing of Australian international Greg Holmes for next season.

Baxter today confirmed he had finalised terms with the Queensland Reds tight-head on a two-year deal.

Holmes, who has won 24 international caps for the Wallabies, is Baxter’s first confirmed signing for the 2016/17 season.

Commenting on the signing, Baxter said: “The important thing to remember is the set-piece and the forward battle is not something that is going to be less important in top flight rugby, so we’re always...

Aussie ace to join Chiefs

Australian international Greg Holmes says he is relishing the challenge that lies ahead after he today sealed his move to Aviva Premiership side Exeter Chiefs.

The 32-year-old tight-head prop, who joins from Super Rugby outfit Queensland Reds, will move to Sandy Park at the start of next season on a two-year deal.

A product of the Reds Academy, Holmes made his debut for the Aussie franchise back in 2005 against the Blues and has since gone on to win 132 Super Rugby caps, seven eight tries in the process.

With 24 caps for the Wallabies also in his locker, the...

Clermont gain revenge in Champions Cup

Around the globe this week the headlines have all been about the latest episode of the Star Wars collection ‘The Force Awakens’.

Well, here in France, star-studded Clermont Auvergne showed they had themselves awoken from their European Champions Cup slumber, ruthlessly dispatching of visiting Exeter Chiefs at the Stade Marcel Michelin.

Having had their noses blooded by Devon’s finest just the week previous, the Top 14 outfit underlined their European credentials with a simply mouth-watering display that yielded five tries.

First half tries from David Strettle and...
