RGB pledges support to Exeter Foundation

RGB Building Supplies is delighted to announce its involvement with the Exeter Chiefs’ Exeter Foundation by joining their commitment to support the local community as a Foundation XV member.

Like other members, RGB has pledged to raise in excess of £1,500 before July 2016.

To do this, staff will be holding bucket collections at some Exeter Chiefs’ home games and the builders merchant has vowed to match the amount that is donated.

RGB will also be supporting other Exeter Foundation events, including RockSolid, an obstacle race for people of all abilities that has...

Rimmer ready for French reaction

When you knock over one of the king-pins of European Rugby, it’s somewhat likely that when your paths cross again, a response of sorts can be expected.

Well, just days out from their latest Champions Cup assignment, Exeter Chiefs prop Carl Rimmer is well aware that hosts ASM Clermont Auvergne are busy plotting their revenge.

Humbled 31-14 at Sandy Park last weekend, the French outfit will on Sunday welcome Devon’s finest to the Stade Marcel Michelin (4:15pm) in a game they know they must win if they are to keep their hopes of qualification alive.

A week ago all...

Hitz youngsters learn commando spirit

A Royal Marine dubbed ‘the commando who refused to die’ is hoping he can help inspire those attending Exeter Chiefs’ Hitz programme to turn their life around.

Corporal Paul Vice was blown up by an improvised explosive device in August 2011 while serving in Afghanistan.

His list of injuries is truly remarkable and he ‘died’ twice during treatment after the left side of his body was “smashed to pieces”.

The father-of-four suffered a broken neck, brain damage, a paralysed right arm, is deaf in one ear and had 400 pieces of shrapnel and stone inside him after the...

Exeter Chiefs star Jack Nowell says he and his team-mates are expecting much tougher resistance from French rivals ASM Clermont-Auvergne when the two lock horns again this Sunday in the European Champions Cup.

Fresh from seeing off last season's beaten finalists 31-14 at Sandy Park last weekend, the high flying Devonians go head-to-head with the same opponents this weekend at the imposing Stade Marcel Michelin.

Cornishman Nowell knows from past experience that French teams on their own patch are a much different proposition and is expecting a backlash of sorts from the...

Armand says bonus point could be vital

Don Armand says the bonus point secured in the final minute of Exeter Chiefs’ famous win over Clermont Auvergne on Saturday could be a vital lifeline in the race for a quarter-final spot.

Mitch Lees rumbled over from close range for Exe’s fourth try in the European Champions Cup tie after a spell of heavy pressure to make it a five-point win and give their hopes of qualification from Pool Two a huge lift.

Gareth Steenson converted to make the final score 31-14, and Rob Baxter’s men head to Clermont on Sunday with their European prospects looking healthy. “That fourth try...

Waldrom keen to build on win

Two-try hero Thomas Waldrom insists Exeter Chiefs always believed they could beat Clermont Auvergne despite going 14-3 down inside 20 minutes.

The Chiefs got stung by two early converted tries from Hosea Gear and Aurelin Rougerie but responded brilliantly with a brace from Waldrom and late scores from Don Armand and Mitch Lees.

It secured the bonus point for Rob Baxter’s side and puts them top of pool two after three games, ahead of next weekend’s vital return fixture in Clermont.

“It’s a big result,” said Waldrom, who scored tries in both halves. “We talked in the...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter was full of praise for his side as they made it back-to-back victories in this season’s European Champions Cup with a 31-14 victory at home to ASM Clermont Auvergne.

Despite trailing 14-10 at the break to last season’s beaten finalists, the Chiefs produced a stunning second half showing that yielded not only 21 unanswered points, but also saw them claim the all-important four-try bonus point.

Early on, however, it was the Top 14 leaders who used the elements to put themselves in charge as they claimed converted tries through Hosea Gear...

Chiefs side to face Clermont

Rob Baxter insists he and his squad need no reminding of the importance of tomorrow’s European Champions Cup encounter with visiting ASM Clermont Auvergne at Sandy Park (5:15pm). Having kicked off their return to Europe’s top tier with defeat to the Ospreys, the Devon club rediscovered their winning formula by securing a bonus point victory at home to Bordeaux-Begles. That success means as they prepare to hit the halfway stage of the competition, they lie second in Pool 5 behind the Welsh region who themselves came unstuck to Clermont at the Stade Marcel Michelin last time out. But whereas...

Baxter confirms double injury blow

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter says its likely England star Henry Slade will be sidelined for roughly four months after sustaining a broken leg and ankle damage in his side’s 41-27 win over Wasps on Saturday.

Centre Slade was stretchered off with just 15 minutes remaining at the Ricoh Arena following a tackle from home winger Sailosi Tagicakibau as he looked to clear out the Exeter playmaker.

Slade, 22, had a plate and wiring inserted during what Baxter described as ‘a pretty major operation’ on Sunday.

The loss of Slade is an untimely blow for both club and...
