Chiefs squad to face Cardiff Blues

Exeter Chiefs kick-off their pre-season programme tonight with a testing trip to Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park (7.30pm).

Having defeated the Welsh region twice in last season's Heineken Cup, Rob Baxter's side know they can expect a riposte of sorts on their latest venture into the Principality.

Weeks of graft on the training field have all but ended for the Chiefs - and it's on-field matters that take centre stage as the countdown to the new 2014/15 season begins in earnest.

Baxter will take the majority of his first-team squad to the Arms Park for tonight's...

Exeter Foundation charities selected

The organisations which raise money during Exeter Chiefs’ home games have been selected for the new rugby season.

This year, 19 organisations will have the chance to assist in the coordination and collection of the funds at Sandy Park. These funds are ring-fenced specifically for these organisations and are distributed at the end of the season at the Exeter Foundation annual presentation dinner.

The organisations and charities selected by the Exeter Foundation are all Exeter-based and range from Vranch House, an independent day school and clinical centre for children with...

Irishman Jerry Sexton says he is “excited” by the prospect of trying to earn himself a contract with Aviva Premiership club Exeter Chiefs.

The 21-year-old forward has been given until the end of November to prove his worth to head coach Rob Baxter, who is keen to bolster his second row options with skipper Dean Mumm currently sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Sexton – the younger brother of Ireland and British Lions fly-half Jonathan Sexton – settled into Devon earlier this week having seen a playing opportunity in France shudder to a halt due to contract problems.

Sireli Naqelevuki's chance to shine

Sireli Naqelevuki says a big year awaits him as he marked his return to action with a try for Exeter Chiefs Academy in their 24-0 pre-season friendly win over Redruth on Tuesday evening.

The Fijian international featured for an hour at the Recreation Ground in a new playing role in the visiting back-row.

After a disappointing campaign last season - hampered somewhat by a troublesome knee injury - the 33-year-old is fighting fit ahead of the 2014/15 campaign and ready to make his mark once more.

Part of the process, however, is the idea that head coach Rob Baxter is...

The green, green grass of home.... Sandy Park!

The grass is looking greener at Sandy Park as the Exeter Chiefs £1m new pitch begins to take shape.

Other major works this summer have seen the existing West Grandstand undergo a £7.5 million transformation, doubling its capacity for usage on both match-days and events throughout the course of the week as well as work on the new East Terrace.

The work underlines once again the commitment being shown to ensure Sandy Park will be the home of premier sport and events for the whole of the South West for many years to come.

"Work at Sandy Park is progressing nicely. The...

Record season ticket sales at Exeter Chiefs... New grandstand is taking shape

The £7.5m redevelopment of Sandy Park's West Grandstand has helped boost season ticket sales by five per cent.

As our pictures show, work is progressing rapidly ahead of the Exeter Chiefs first home game on September 13.

And that has been good for business.

Commenting on the news, Chief Executive Tony Rowe said: "Each year we continue to see our support base grow with the rise in season ticket sales. The support that we enjoyed last season, particularly during our European and LV= Cup adventures was simply outstanding. For us, it's fantastic to see so many...

New role for Fijian powerhouse Naqelevuki

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter will use pre-season as a chance to experiment a new role for imposing Fijian Sireli Naqelevuki.

Having been sidelined for much of last season with a troublesome knee complaint, Baxter is looking at switching the 33-year-old into the forwards this season to help utilise his considerable frame.

The former Stormers star - who is set to begin his fifth season at Sandy Park - initially arrived as a winger, making his debut in Exeter's maiden season in the Aviva Premiership in an away game at Northampton Saints.

Over time, however,...

Chiefs celebrate 20 years with SW Comms

Exeter Chiefs is celebrating 20 years of support from the same sponsor by sporting a new logo on the first team’s playing shirt and training kit.

Especially designed by JJC Design, the new logo marks South West Communications Group’s long-term sponsorship deal with the Aviva Premiership club.

The Exeter-based single business communications solution provider first paid for the Exeter Rugby Club’s first team shirts for the 1993/94 season when they were known as South West Telecoms. Since then, South West Communications Group’s involvement with the club has grown year on year...

Chiefs start to crank things up

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter insists things are starting to "crank up" in terms of squad preparation ahead of the new 2014/15 season.

Baxter welcomed his players back into their latest phase of pre-season on Monday having giving them all a week's rest following a physically demanding opening block of training.

Now with friendlies against Cardiff Blues, Ulster and Worcester Warriors looming large on the horizon, Exeter's leader has been overseeing the next phase which, he says, sees a step up in standards.

“We’ve done a live bit of contact this week. Although...
