The Devon Lions, especially set up as a gay-friendly team, won Exeter City Football Club’s One Game One Community Futsal tournament yesterday (Sunday 29 March).
The Lions, inspired by some outstanding goalkeeping, edged out the Open Space International Legends, who included several Afghan players, 2-0 in the final.
The tournament, organised by Exeter City Football in the Community, attracted a diverse range of community teams from the local YMCA to a group of University of Exeter students from Hong Kong. Many countries were represented including players from Nigeria,...
Exeter City Football Club has agreed to become a partner to Exeter Pound. Discussions have begun to explore how the club will take the local currency at St James Park.
Gill Westcott, Chair of the Board of Directors of Exeter Pound said: "Exeter City Football Club is a key player in the community. We will be delighted if the Exeter Pound can be used at the club."
Stagecoach has also agreed to become a partner to Exeter Pound. Parallel discussions have opened as to how people might pay for their bus fares in Exeter Pounds.

In Exeter City FC’s recent Northampton match day programme an article appeared called 'Remembering the Football Battalion'.
This described the formation of the Battalion, made up of footballers, which included 10 players from Clapton Orient (now Leyton Orient) including Nolan Evans who had previously played 70 League and Cup appearances for Exeter City between 1910 and 1912.
The Battalion fought at the Battle of the Somme in 1916 and Nolan was injured during this at Delville Wood. Three Orient players were killed.
Exeter City Football Club will be making clear its opposition to homophobia in football at its home game with Cambridge United next week. (Tuesday 10 February). The match has been designated as the Club’s annual ‘Football v Homophobia’ fixture – a move welcomed by the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust and its One Game One Community (OGOC) Group and the Club’s Football in the Community scheme. The Exeter City FC Supporters’ Trust was delighted to receive a collection of scrapbooks, going back to the 1950s, about Exeter City.
The donation came from long time supporter Martin Copleston, who handed over three large bundles of scrapbooks to ensure they were saved for future generations to look at.
Martin started keeping scrapbooks in 1957/8 and still rates our 1958/9 team, which just missed out on promotion, as the best Exeter side he has seen.
The Trust is currently developing its history work with plans for a new Exeter City History Group in the pipeline....
Exeter City FC's One Game One Community Group and Football in the Community Department is delighted to announce that they will be hosting their annual Futsal Tournament again this year.
The event will take place at 2.00pm on Sunday 29 March at the University of Exeter Sports Hall. Entries are now invited particularly from local black and minority ethnic teams and local community groups/organisations.

The Exeter City FC Supporters’ Trust Forum is taking place on Thursday 19 February at 7pm in the Apple Taxi Suite at St James’ Park, Exeter.
This forum is open to all, members and non-members, so come along to hear a presentation by Simon Hayward, Youth Academy Manager, with an opportunity to ask your questions.
This will be followed by a break for refreshments and raffle

Christmas came early for the children and teenagers on Bramble Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital when they received a special visit from the stars of Exeter City Football Club.
With the help of Build-a-Bear, the players from the club gave out dozens of bears, signed merchandise and other presents to the young patients to help bring some Christmas cheer to the ward. The players who visited were Scot Bennett, Pat Baldwin, Matt Oakley, Matt Grimes, David Noble, Ryan Harley, Clinton Morrison and Christy Pym.

Exeter City attacking duo Matt Jay and Ollie Watkins have joined Weston-super-Mare on a one-month loan deal. The pair both turned professional in the summer after winning the Youth Alliance South West title with the Grecians’ under-18 team, and made their first-team debuts while still Academy players last season. Jay and Watkins could feature in as many as eight games for the Somerset side before their loan is due to end after they face Sutton United on Sunday 4th January.
