Staff from a local fire protection services company have come up with a novel way of raising money for charity - instead of preventing a fire from happening, they will be walking across it. As large businesses start to implement their auto-enrolment pensions from 1 October, NFU Mutual, a provider of pensions and investments, is urging smaller business owners in the South West to start making plans for their own workplace pension schemes.

At an exclusive awards ceremony and exhibition opening at Exeter Phoenix last night, Olivier Larivière was announced as the recipient of the main £1000 award for the Exeter Contemporary Open 2012. The judges – artist S Mark Gubb, independent curator Paula Orrell and Phoenix gallery curator Matt Burrows faced a tough decision to select three award winners from the nine exhibiting artists.
