Firewatch encourages people to walk over hot coals for charity

Staff from a local fire protection services company have come up with a novel way of raising money for charity - instead of preventing a fire from happening, they will be walking across it. Firewatch South West, which is based in Newton Abbot, has joined forces with the West of England School and College, its charity of the year, to hold a firewalk.

YMCA Santas are facing tall order in building search

Exeter YMCA are desperately seeking a building for their annual Charity Santa Abseil after they have been unable to find a suitable location for this year's event. While a number of owners were keen to make their building available, they have had to withdraw permission citing insurance or health and safety restrictions.

As large businesses start to implement their auto-enrolment pensions from 1 October, NFU Mutual, a provider of pensions and investments, is urging smaller business owners in the South West to start making plans for their own workplace pension schemes.

Exeter Physio lends a hand at FORCE charity run

Five physiotherapists from Exeter Physio were on hand at the FORCE Cancer Charity and Francis Clark running event held at Powderham Castle.

The team set up their beds to treat any injuries or aches and pains picked up during the 10k, 5k and family events.

Exeter Contemporary Open 2012 Winner Announced

At an exclusive awards ceremony and exhibition opening at Exeter Phoenix last night, Olivier Larivière was announced as the recipient of the main £1000 award for the Exeter Contemporary Open 2012. The judges – artist S Mark Gubb, independent curator Paula Orrell and Phoenix gallery curator Matt Burrows faced a tough decision to select three award winners from the nine exhibiting artists. Olivier's paintings however, a series of images depicting people handling wild animals, were seen to stand out as particularly strong.
