Throughout April, Devon & Cornwall Police are carrying out proactive operations, targeting drivers who ignore road traffic laws and put lives at risk.

Devon homebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter has raised over £1,600 for national charity Magic Breakfast by taking part in their Great Big Breakfast across their housing developments and head office.

By coming together to share a morning meal with colleagues and contractors, they supported the charity to give more than 11,000 breakfasts to hungry children across England and Scotland.

Exeter students learn about bright futures in the solar industry

Students from West Exe School , part of the Ted Wragg Trust , have attended a solar careers fair.

Year 8 and 9 students went along to Exeter College and met with representatives from a number of companies involved in the solar industry.

The students also played a highly competitive game of giant Jenga, took part in a quiz, which one of the Year 9 teams won, and attended talks on the ‘Future of Solar’.

Letting parts of your garden grow wild with long grass can increase butterfly numbers by up to 93% and attract a wider range of species, according to new research from leading wildlife charity Butterfly Conservation.

The study, published in the journal Science of the Total Environment, provides the first scientific evidence that having long grass in your garden increases butterfly abundance and diversity. Creating such wild spaces may help to reverse the decline of these beautiful insects.

“Big Night Out” raises over £4,500 for Exeter homelessness charity

On Friday 12th April, 18 intrepid people slept out to raise over £4,500 for St Petrock’s, Exeter’s local homelessness charity, as part of the charity’s first ever #BigNightOut.

The event, in which people were invited to “sleep rough” in their gardens, sheds, on sofas or in the countryside, aimed both to raise awareness of homelessness and the challenges faced by rough sleepers in Exeter, and to encourage people to give financially towards the cost of running the vital services St Petrock’s provides to help rough sleepers survive and find a way off the streets.
