Whipton Barton Federation pupils win ‘Proud to Be’ postcard competition

Mrs Moretta, the headteacher at Whipton Barton Federation, part of the Ted Wragg Trust was pleased to attend the ‘Proud to Be’ community event held at The Beacon Centre, along with Mrs Williams the assistant headteacher.

The staff were in attendance on behalf of four pupils from the school who were winners in the postcard competition. The children's entries celebrated the places in their local community that they are proud of.

New leader and deputy at County Hall

Devon County Council's deputy leader is set to become the new leader of the authority.

James McInnes has been chosen by the ruling Conservative group to replace John Hart. Long-standing Cabinet member Andrea Davis will become deputy leader.

The changes are set to be ratified at the council's annual meeting on Thursday 23 May.

Mr Hart is being nominated to become chairman of the council at the same meeting.

Mr McInnes represents Hatherleigh and Chagford and is a retired farmer from West Devon. He is married with a daughter.

Top score for Bloor Homes at Pinhoe as team achieves 100% customer satisfaction

Staff at the Bloor Homes at Pinhoe development close to Exeter are celebrating a 100% satisfaction score from customers who purchased a new home there, when asked in an independent survey by the National House Building Council (NHBC).

The score is based on individual customer responses after they move into their new home and supports NHBC’s purpose of ‘raising standards in house building by championing high-quality homes and protecting homeowners, through training and quality services and by assessing, inspecting and directly insuring new homes registered with them’.

Exeter announces new £3.4 million global funding for solutions to antifungal drug resistance

Researchers working on solutions for antifungal resistance are being encouraged to apply to a new £3.4 million fund led by the University of Exeter with UK government funding.

The new fund, called FAILSAFE ( Fungal AMR Innovations for LMICS: Solutions and Access For Everyone ), is being launched by the University of Exeter’s MRC Centre for Medical Mycology, in partnership with the UK Department of Health and Social Care’s Global AMR Innovation Fund (GAMRIF).

Voters urged to remember photo ID at Thursday’s elections

People are being reminded to make sure they have appropriate photo ID on them when voting in this Thursday’s (2 May) elections in Exeter.

Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm across the city as people go to the polls. The elections in Exeter are for the City Council as well as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
