Aldi donates 6,300 meals to Devon's charities over the festive period

Charities in Devon have helped Aldi donate around 6,300 meals to people in need this Christmas Eve.

The supermarket paired up its stores with local charities, community groups and food banks to make the most of unsold fresh and chilled food after stores closed on 24th December.

Around 210 tonnes of food were donated throughout the UK, with more than 500,000 meals donated and more than 750 UK causes benefitting from the initiative in total.

Exeter’s Tesco stores have joined a city-wide effort to contribute food and gifts to children and families in critical need of support this festive season.

Tesco is expanding its food donation programme to help Devon families eat more fresh fruit and vegetables over the winter. From 16 November, the supermarket will give any of the 500,000 families who use the weekly Healthy Start vouchers a £1 coupon to spend on fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables.
