Bishop Fleming employees raise over £4,500 for Devon charity

Employees at the Exeter and Torquay offices of leading audit, accountancy, tax and advisory firm Bishop Fleming have raised £4,505 for a Devon-based charity.

Earlier this year the two offices announced their partnership with Devon Wildlife Trust as their chosen charity of the year.

The firm, which delivers accounting, tax and advisory services to businesses, academies and charities and private wealth advice to individuals, held a charity quiz at Sandy Park on 23 November to support the work of the Devon-based charity.

Garden extravaganza funds to enhance museum

A record total of £13,500 has been raised by one of the largest garden events in Devon this summer.

Topsham Museum is based in one of the town’s 17th century houses close to the Exe estuary, and volunteers from the Museum organised a Secret Gardens event in June.

This involved 14 ‘hidden gem’ gardens dotted around the estuary town being thrown open to visitors one afternoon: and despite uncertain weather, a record 1,600 entry programmes were sold, with some individual gardens seeing up to 1,300 visitors during just five hours.

Family raises £10,000 for Samaritans to remember Danielle

A dozen members of an extended westcountry family have handed over a huge fundraising cheque to Samaritans.

The £10,000 donation - one of the largest ever made to the Exeter, Mid and East Devon branch of the charity - was raised to remember Danielle Cornish who died last summer after losing a battle with her mental health.

The handover took place outside the charity’s branch in central Exeter and involved Danielle’s parents Debbie and Steve, their daughter Tayde, and other family members from Ideford, Kingsteignton and Saltash.

A formidable group of friends has raised more than £60,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by bringing the Clyst St Mary community together in memory of a beloved friend.

Al’s Pals Open Garden party has been running for the past few years thanks to a dedicated team hoping to honour the memory of their dear friend Alison Robinson , who died from cancer in 2019.

This year’s event raised £4,567.29, bringing the total collected by these fantastic fundraisers to £60,000 to enable Macmillan Cancer Support to fund services for people living with cancer.

The Co-operative Bank has given £200 to Kenyan Educational Sponsorship community group which is dedicated to helping young people in Kenya achieve their academic potential, enabling them to realise their ambitions and make the most of their lives. They are currently sponsoring three bright but extremely poor students Marcy, Alfred and Vivian.

Wedding belles raise funds for Neonatal Unit

Ruth Fishleigh and her family have raised nearly £4,000 for the Neonatal Unit (NNU) at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by holding a ‘Wedding Dress Ball’.

The sell-out event, which saw 130 guests attend dressed in their finest wedding attire, took place at the Exeter Golf and Country Club on 20th May. The charity dinner dance and auction provided an opportunity for women to give their wedding dresses another wearing and help raise some money for a cause close to Ruth’s heart.

The line-up has been announced for the annual Chudleigh Variety Concert which is being held this year on Saturday 4th October.

Topping the bill will be magician and illusionist, Peter Baffles.
