The Skills Group Hair Academy in Exeter is holding an open day on Monday 10 November for potential hairdressing and barbering apprentices and salon owners who may be considering taking on an apprentice.
The event is part of Skills Group’s current ‘Learn a trade and get paid’ campaign to raise awareness of apprenticeship opportunities.
Young people are invited to attend from 10am-3pm to meet the hairdressing training team, and to take part in have-a-go sessions, demonstrations and master classes.

Exeter charity Hospiscare said a sad farewell to Barry Carpenter who has retired after 14 years as the support group co-ordinator.
During his time helping Hospiscare support groups across Exeter, East and Mid Devon, a total of £2.5m has been raised for the charity - including the Exeter group raising £1.25m.
At a farewell party Hospiscare chief executive Glynis Atherton praised Barry's hard work, support and encouragement and hands on approach to the role. She said the many extra hours he had given unpaid to the charity amounted to two years.

A major refurbishment project at the University of Exeter medical school will begin later this month after being granted funding and planning permission.
The work expected to cost over £10.5 million will improve on facilities at the University’s St Luke’s Campus by providing more space for teaching and student study.

Sidmouth Science Festival aims to raise awareness of how science affects our everyday lives by integrating art, music and drama with serious scientific and technological talks. There will be events and activities for schools, individuals and families as well as those looking for stimulating debate on scientific subjects.
The festival is organised by the Vision Group for Sidmouth (VGS) and the Norman Lockyer Observatory.
