Royal visit celebrates Headway's move

Brain injury survivors from across Devon and Torbay were delighted this week to meet Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex at a special event with local brain injury charity Headway Devon.

During the visit, The Countess of Wessex toured the XCentre – which is the headquarters of Headway Devon as well as the charity’s Exeter-based day centre for people with brain injuries – speaking to people affected by brain injuries and supporters of the charity.

Chamber raises £1,000 for charities

Exeter Chamber of Commerce helped nine local charities raise over £1,000 at their Christmas Charity Auction Lunch last week, held at the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel.

The auctioneer for the special lunch was Mel Everett, weekend presenter for Devon/Cornwall Heart radio.

Exeter pensioner in line for national award

A volunteer cook from Exeter who has dedicated the past 17 years of her life to catering for people affected by brain injury is to be honoured at a national awards ceremony.

Margaret Bird, 82, from Silverton village, on the outskirts of Exeter, will compete against only two other nominees from across the UK for The Stephen McAleese Outstanding Contribution to Headway Award, which will be presented at an annual awards ceremony organised by Headway – the brain injury association.

To celebrate Action for Brain Injury Week, local charity Headway Devon will be touring the county with an exhibition of client artwork and coffee morning.

Having made stops in Torquay, Tiverton, Exmouth and Honiton, this "roadshow" will be making it's final stop in Exeter's St Stephen's Church on Saturday 18th May.

The event will be running from 10am-1.30pn and as well as an exhibition of artwork, there will be information stands, delicious homemade cakes, children's activities, space to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and a range of stalls to browse.

Exeter Foundation computer boost for brain injured

Brain injury survivors in the city now have access to top-of-the-range IT facilities thanks to the generosity of the Exeter Foundation.
