On the evening of Friday 21st March 1941 an RAF bomber of 49 Squadron crashed onto Hameldown, Dartmoor killing all four crew members on board. To commemorate the 74th anniversary of the crash a special event will take place at Higher Cemetery, Exeter on Saturday 21st March 2015. By popular request the exhibition shown in August is being repeated, with some additional items.
This is a free exhibition of information and items relating to the First World War, contributed by members of the Heavitree community, including personal stories from families who were directly affected.
Here is a chance to find why soldiers were sometimes called Tommies, why a poppy for remembrance, why were some men given a white feather, what coat was developed for the trenches but is now a very fashionable garment.
On Remembrance Sunday Christine Trigger, assisted by Michael Parrott, will lead a tour of the Higher Cemetery war graves.
This event is organised by Friends of Higher Cemetery.
The walk will commence at 2pm near the Higher Cemetery chapel. There is no charge for this event but any donations will be forwarded to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Exeter City Council has announced that Heavitree Paddling Pools will be closed for the day tomorrow (25 July) to allow for the water to be changed.
But fear not, as the pools should be back in action on Friday (26 July), ready for the busy summer period.
The pools have seen thousands of users over the last few weeks during the exceptionally hot weather. The high number of users has resulted in a build up of sun tan lotion on the sides of the pools.

Mrs Joan Moran died peacefully on Tuesday 2nd February at home with her family at her bedside. She was much loved and her loss is deeply felt.
On Wednesday 10th February at 6pm, Joan’s body will be received into the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Heavitree, Exeter, followed by Ash Wednesday Mass, 7pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday 11th February at midday, at the Blessed Sacrament with a burial at the Higher Cemetery.
