White Stuff move store to Exeter High Street

Exeter’s White Stuff store is moving to new premises on Exeter High Street.

The fashion and lifestyle retailer has announced today that it is relocating from Gandy Street to the 3,000 sq ft shop formerly occupied by Millets.

The new shop will open on Wednesday 3 December.

A spokesperson for the company said “We are excited to be moving to a new site in Exeter and offering our unique range of clothing, footwear, accessories and homeware to the local community.

Exeter High Street was closed by emergency services earlier today after debris fell from the roof of the Lakeland building. A police cordon was erected around the building to clear the pavement whilst fire crews checked the roof via an extending ladder. Debris from the guttering of the Lakeland building is thought to have been blown loose by extremely strong winds in today’s storm.

Winds are though to have reached between 50-60mph in the city and up to 80mph in more exposed areas of the Devon coast. City Centre Buses have been diverted from the high street until the building is...

Government caps parking charges

The government has capped all parking penalty charges and launched a consultation into aggressive parking policy as part of support package to help boost high streets and city centres.

The cap will come into immediate effect in all government parking enforcement ahead of further consultation into local authority parking policies.

The consultation announced by Communities Sectary Eric Pickles could see local businesses get the right to challenge councils over the number and locations of Double-Yellow lines in towns and cities.

Princesshay and Exeter High Street closed to investigate 'suspicious package'

At 6.24pm last night, Exeter City Centre Police were called to the Princesshay shopping area of Exeter by staff at the New Look store, who were concerned about a suspicious package that had been left in their shop. The shop was closed at the time of the call, as were the majority of premises in the area.

As a precautionary measure, a cordon was placed around the store and the direct vicinity and a specially trained police officer searched the scene.

The officer removed a bag containing non-suspicious items from the store and the cordons were removed.

Road closures in Exeter tomorrow for the arrival of the Tour of Britain

Anyone wishing to travel into, out of or around Exeter tomorrow should be aware of extensive disruption to travel as the Tour of Britain passes through the city in the afternoon. Those travelling though Exeter by bus or car should plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays. Rolling road closures are expected to take place between 12:15 to 13:20 but could vary depending on the progress of the race. Exeter chosen for new luxury student development scheme

Specialist luxury accommodation provider, Vita Student, has selected Exeter as the location for a new £17m project. The city was chosen due to the reputation of the university, rising student numbers and the undersupply of high quality property.

The former chief of chain stores Wickes and Iceland has claimed that 20,000 independent shops in the UK are at risk of closing, in an alternative report into the high street to be published this week.
