Lots of family fun at the Hospiscare Breakfast Run!

Hundreds of pyjama-clad runners, joggers and walkers from across Devon turned up at glorious Knightshayes near Tiverton on Sunday 17th September to take part in the Hospiscare Breakfast Run. The novelty event which featured a 5 or 10k route attracted runners from all age groups and abilities, with 482 people joining in to raise much-needed funds for local charity Hospiscare.

The participants enjoyed an off road course with some challenging inclines and were rewarded for their efforts at the end with a delicious breakfast from the Stables Kitchen.

Hospiscare@Home, the new service bringing the expertise of the hospice into the home for residents in and around Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Lympstone and Woodbury, has received touching feedback about one of the first patients to use the service.

Earlier this year, Katie, who lived on her own in East Budleigh, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and given the prognosis that she had 3 months left to live.

Local radio and TV personality Judi Spiers has set off with her long term pal, Gus Honeybun to visit as many coffee mornings as they can in September.

Supported by Mercedes Benz of Exeter, who are sponsoring the campaign and who have kindly lent Judi a Cabriolet in which she can zip about the lanes of Devon, the pair will be visiting workplaces, homes and village halls to enjoy some home baking, strong coffee and to give thanks to the lovely people in our community who are raising money for local hospice charity, Hospiscare .

Why Allyson is going on a Jolly Good Jaunt this October...

After last year’s success, this year’s Jolly Good Jaunt will be held on the morning of Sunday 29th October. It is a 7.5-mile sponsored walk from the Deer Park Country House Hotel through the breath-taking beauty of the autumnal East Devon countryside.

Allyson Fitzgerald and her daughter Emily took part in the Jolly Good Jaunt for the first time, last year. Her husband Mick had been cared for by Hospiscare before he passed away in 2013.

Hospiscare invites you to Holcombe Court’s Open Garden weekend

Local charity Hospiscare is delighted to announce that for the second year running there will an Open Garden weekend held on 23rd and 24th September at the beautiful private home, Holcombe Court in Holcombe Rogus.

Holcombe Court is a Grade I Tudor manor house situated on the border of Devon and Somerset, and its seven-acre garden is rarely open to the public.

The 2016 weekend raised over £4,000 to support Pine Lodge Day Hospice in Tiverton and it is hoped the amount will be beaten this year. The funds raised will prove invaluable towards ensuring that Hospiscare can...

Skydiving is the sort of activity many of us dream about. But how many of us get the opportunity to actually do it? And how many of us would be brave enough to go through with it if we did?

Jen Beckenham is one such person: bold enough to throw herself out of a plane into the middle of the sky, near the roof of the world. Dr. Sarah Jackson has long been a supporter of popular Devon charity Hospiscare , and now holds the position of trustee. But this September will see Sarah go further still as she plans the challenge of completing her first half-ironman to raise funds for the charity.

In March 2016, Exeter Hospiscare nurse Daisy McLauchlan was travelling back from a weekend break on the Isle of Wight, when a call was sent out over the ship’s tannoy system asking for any doctors, nurses or first aiders on board to urgently make their way to the front of the vessel.

This week, 12-18 June, it’s Carers Week. The annual campaign aims to raise awareness of the challenges carers face and recognises the contribution carers make to families and communities throughout the UK.

Local charity Hospiscare support patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Exeter, Mid and East Devon. The charity also provides a range of services for carers with information, advice, complementary therapies, or simply the opportunity to talk to someone who understands.
