Dates announced for Buckfast Abbey’s popular Christmas Market

Devon’s Buckfast Abbey has announced that its popular three-day Christmas Market will return for 2022, taking place from Thursday 1st December to Saturday 3rd December (10am – 5pm).

Free to enter, and with on-site parking available for £5, the family-friendly Christmas Market will feature independent stalls offering everything from delicious food and drink to unique gifts handmade by local craftsmen. Visitors will also have an opportunity to explore the Abbey’s stunning grounds and its beautiful Abbey church, which form the backdrop to the festive Christmas market.

Club staff save swimmer's life

The fast actions of Exeter Golf and Country Club staff saved the life of one of their club members, when he suffered a major heart attack.

Mike Ritchie, 61, became unconscious whilst gripped by a severe heart attack as he sat in the jacuzzi at the club. A fellow member, Janice Voce, raised the alarm with 17 year old lifeguard Elliot Chandler, when she noticed Mr Ritchie slumped in the water. Elliot who has been a lifeguard for less than a year reacted immediately and with his fellow Lifeguard, Luke, pulled Mr Ritchie out of the water while pressing the alarm to summon other members...

Unique socks could save NHS billions

Socks and sleeves aimed at preventing the distressing problem of skin tears are being extensively trialled at The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and at local GP practices.

The protective garments have been designed by entrepreneur, Peter Thornton, part of the famous Thornton's confectionary family.

Peter, who lives in East Devon, came up with the idea after suffering from the distressing condition, estimated to affect up to three million elderly people in the United Kingdom.

Peter says that if adopted, the socks and sleeves could save the NHS Billions of Pounds....
