The summer holidays are slowly coming to an end, however there are still plenty of fun-filled events and activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Radis Community Care’s Exeter-based extra care housing service, Edward’s Court, is welcoming the local community to its August summer fete and will take place on Saturday 31st August between 1pm-4pm, with the Lord Mayor of Exeter also in attendance.

Second term for ‘excellent’ Exeter Lord Mayor

Exeter’s longest-serving councillor will serve a second term as the city’s Lord Mayor.

Cllr Kevin Mitchell (Lib Dem, Duryard and St James) was first elected to the city council in 2003, and is officially its ‘senior citizen’.

He said he was extremely proud to be nominated for a second year.

He was nominated by Cllr Laura Wright (Lab, St Thomas), who said: “He has been an excellent ambassador for the city, and has done his job with huge enthusiasm and enjoyment.”

Lord Mayor officially opens new Blue Cross unit in Exeter

The Lord Mayor of Exeter has officially opened a new rehoming, advice and behaviour unit from national pet charity Blue Cross in the city.

Dogs, cats and small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs will be cared for in foster homes whilst they are waiting to be matched to a new home by the team at the unit at Matford Park Road, Marsh Barton.

The team at the unit will offer rehoming, advice and behaviour services, as well as a pet food bank for owners struggling to cover the cost of feeding their pets.

Former Lord Mayor raises £21,450 for Exeter Dementia Action Alliance

A total of £21,450 has been raised by Exeter’s former Lord Mayor for the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance.

The five figure sum was collected by Cllr Yolonda Henson during her term as Lord Mayor of Exeter from May 2022 until May 2023.

The charity has thanked the outgoing Lord Mayor and all those who helped raise such a large sum of money and raise much needed awareness for dementia and the local group.

New Lord Mayor of Exeter nominated

Long-serving councillor Kevin Mitchell will become Exeter’s new lord mayor later in the year.

The Liberal Democrat member for Duryard & St James will take over the politically neutral, ceremonial role in May, after being officially nominated at an executive meeting on Wednesday [28 February].

Residents and staff at RMBI Care Co. Home Cadogan Court, in Exeter, have recently welcomed the city’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Yolonda Henson. Accompanied by John Davies, Exeter’s Senior Mace Sergeant, the Mayor brought a book of condolences for everyone to sign and remember the late Queen Elizabeth II.

During her visit, the Mayor stated: “It is a privilege to visit Cadogan Court and other Homes in Exeter. It’s so important for everyone in our communities to have the opportunity to come together at this historic time of great national sadness.”

The Lord Mayor of Exeter begun visiting care homes across the city last week to allow residents to sign books of condolence to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. She started with a visit to Cumberland Grange.
