On Tuesday (15) December, Dart Fresh HQ in Exeter played host to a series of socially distanced cookery demos to showcase the fabulous range of local produce. Celebrity chef and cookery book author, Dipna Anand joined the team to judge the final of the ‘Lockdown Cook-Off’, their own twist on Ready Steady Cook for chefs who were unable to work due to the lockdown.

The Dart Fresh team were absolutely astonished by the response, with over forty entries submitted by talented chefs from Cheltenham to Plymouth, Weymouth to Barnstaple and everywhere in between.

Devon-based barbecue restaurant have launched a vegan menu in response to customers’ increasingly health-conscious food choices. The team, who also own an organic charcuterie company, are keen to promote meat-alternatives in a bid to encourage less but better-quality meat consumption.

Topsham’s Pig & Pallet smokehouse and barbecue restaurant uses the same wood and smoking techniques to replicate meaty flavours, but instead of using animal products, they showcase vegetables and jackfruit.

Already a serious player in the organic and grass-fed meat sector, Bratton Clovelly based Eversfield Organic is acquiring The Well Hung Meat Company, taking effect as of today, Thursday 16th November 2017. The acquisition will position Eversfield Organic in the top three organic box delivery businesses nationwide and cement its position as a market leader with a combined turnover of over £5 million.

New deal puts local pork on the menu

Business continues to go from strength to strength for an Exeter family farm.

The Freemantle family has been farming pigs at Kenniford Farm on the outside of Exeter for more than 20 years.

And the farm had just signed a deal with a local pub chain Webb Enterprises to supply three local pubs with its Red Tractor approved pork.

Webb Enterprises specialises in running traditional pubs and restaurants and owns the Halfway Inn on the A3052, The Saddlers Arms at Lympstone and The Bowd Inn, Sidmouth.

Tesco Eat Happy Project attends Farm Wise event

Hundreds more schoolchildren will next week be given the opportunity to learn about where their food comes from by visiting The Tesco Eat Happy Project stand, adding to the 6,400 Devon-based children who have already enjoyed a Farm to Fork Trail in a local Tesco store.

The Tesco Eat Happy Project is delighted to be attending Farm Wise in Devon, an event being organised by Devon County Council to educate schoolchildren about the journey their food goes on and its nutritional content. The event takes place at the Westpoint Arena, Exeter on Tuesday 14 October 2014.

The NFU and NPA say that new European Commission rules on food labelling may lead to massive confusion for British shoppers keen to buy meat produced in the UK.

The Commission voted to introduce mandatory reared and slaughtered labelling rules.
