The Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink has won gold in the Tourism Event of the Year category of the 2013 Devon Tourism Awards.
After the awards ceremony, which was held in Torquay last week, Michael Caines MBE, tweeted: “Great result after 10 years, a great achievement for all involved!”
This year saw stiff competition with an increase to over 100 entries from the cream of the Devon tourism industry, with 44 businesses selected as finalists, each winning either Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended awards.
Sapphire Living Space, based in Topsham, celebrated their first Birthday last Friday evening with style and were joined by special guests Michael Caines and Naomi Cleaver and over 100 guests.
Celebrations included a live band, drinks and canapés, while Michael Caines did some food demonstrations and then signed copies of his new book.
Richard Atkins has been Principal of Exeter College since 2002, and was previously Principal of Yeovil College for seven years. The 14th annual Michelmores charity race attracted 920 entrants to run around a brand new city centre course starting in Cathedral Yard and finishing at Exeter Castle.
Started by celebrity chef Michael Caines, the men’s race was won by Simon Longthorpe with Emma Hitchins the first women home. Karen Cook and Franks Reay won the veterans competitions while solicitors Foot Anstey won the corporate event. Promotional clothing distributors, Pencarrie entered the largest team with Nike+ Run Club Exeter the first running club to finish.

Families for Children (FFC) Patron Michael Caines MBE and his family officially celebrated and launched the ongoing partnership with Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park as they embark on a second year of fundraising and support. A donation from Haines Watts Chartered Accountants Exeter to their Charity of the Year, Families for Children Adoption Agency (FFC), has enabled the worthy cause to run two preparation courses for potential adopters. Haines Watts, based in Southernhay, raised over £2,000 for FFC through various activities and networking events over the 12-month period. This included an event to launch FFC as their new Charity of the Year held at Exeter Audi with sponsored Exeter Chiefs player Craig Mitchell during National Adoption Week.
