In celebration of National Moth Night, The Trill Trust and Butterfly Conservation are inviting locals to spend the evening of 11th September at Trill Farm, meeting some of the most secretive night time inhabitants, the moths and bats.

There are around 2500 species of moth in the UK and they are not the butterfly's drab cousin that some people take them for, they are in fact fascinating and beautiful creatures. Bats are the moths nemesis, using their echolocation to catch them for food, but some moths have developed adaptations to try to outwit the bats in an ever evolving arms race...

Big Butterfly Weekend

From a tiny egg, via a crawly caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly, come and celebrate the butterflies and moths that are native to Britain on 5 and 6 July at A la Ronde, near Exmouth.

The Big Butterfly Weekend, which runs from 11am–4pm, will have experts on hand to help you discover all sorts of interesting facts about these fascinating creatures. You will be able to take a guided walk in the wildflower meadow to find out how to spot and identify some of our native species (take your own binoculars); and you can learn about the plants that attract butterflies.

RAMM receives donation of a scientifically valuable insect collection

Devon charity, the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, has donated a large collection of butterflies, moths and other insects to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery in Exeter.

The Conservation Trust oversees Paignton Zoo, Slapton Ley, Living Coasts and Newquay Zoo and the specimens were collected by Dr David Stradling, the former Chairman, who passed away in July 2012 after a long illness. His collection was started in the 1950s and includes specimens from the UK, Switzerland, Trinidad, Argentina and Botswana.

Ladies pamper night at Sapphire Living Space

VIP guests enjoyed a ladies pamper night at Sapphire Living Space near Darts Farm in Topsham.

The luxury kitchen and bathroom showroom joined forces with Saks Hair and Beauty and Purity Day Spa, both in Exeter, to host a drinks and canapés evening with live demonstrations. The food and drinks were catered for by Bon Gout of Exeter.

Co-owner Mark Newbery said: "This will be the first of many events we will be staging at Sapphire. It was a great success."
