Public Service Broadcasting to headline Exeter's Lost Weekend Festival

Lost Weekend is delighted to announce the headliner for the Lost In Music part of the festival will be the amazing Public Service Broadcasting.

The band will bring their spellbinding show to Exeter’s amazing gothic Cathedral on Saturday, October 7.

Other bands taking part in the festival include Dutch Uncles, Denzel Himself, Big Zuu, Mise En Scene, Muncie Girls, Eliza and the Bear and Zion Train, and much more.

A welcome chorus for Exeter Philharmonic Choir’s new Musical Director

Exeter Philharmonic Choir, which has just celebrated its 170th season, is delighted to announce that Howard Ionascu will become its new Director of Music in September, marking a new era in the choir’s long history.

Howard Ionascu has been with the Royal Academy of Music for the last four years, where he is Director of the Junior Academy. He will be making regular trips from London to work with Exeter Philharmonic Choir and brings extensive experience of conducting concerts with full orchestras and large choirs.

Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles was the first major work commissioned by the award-winning professional vocal ensemble, Tenebrae, in 2005 and having received high acclaim (“an evocative odyssey” – The Times) returns this year for an extensive UK tour alongside choral favourites such as Stanford's 'The Blue Bird' and works by EElgar and Tavener.

To accompany its revival, Tenebrae has commissioned a unique new choral work by Owain Park, Footsteps, which allows Tenebrae to perform alongside Antiphon and marks Tenebrae’s fifteenth-anniversary season.

Fourth time lucky for Matt at 40th Dartmoor Folk Festival

IT was fourth time lucky for Matt Norman at the 40th anniversary Dartmoor Folk Festival, held at South Zeal near Okehampton at the weekend.

Folk music, song and dance enthusiast Matt, from Bristol, was declared the champion adult Dartmoor Step Dance competition champion for 2017 after a hotly-fought competition.

Matt, formerly from South Zeal and Exeter, had previously won the title in 2008, 2011 and 2015 and now equals competitor Lisa Sture, from North Devon, who holds the record for having previously won the title on four occasions.

Axe Valley Community Choir strikes a chord with former member at Seaton Care Home

A total of 28 members of the Axe Valley Community Choir joined former bass singer 92-year-old Ron Styles, now a resident at The Seaton Care Home, for a special reunion performance. The 85-strong Axe Valley Community Choir, was formed in 2009 to bring people of all ages and abilities to enjoy singing together, as well as participating in fundraising events within the community. Ron had been a popular member of the choir before setting up residence in the care home in February and has been sorely missed.
