On Sunday 9th June, farms across the country are opening their gates and inviting the public to come and find out more about farming and what farmers do. LEAF Open Farm Sunday has now been running for 14 years, offering a wonderful opportunity for visitors to get closer to farming and to the people that make it happen.

Open Farm Sunday at Darts Farm

On 9th June 2019, Darts Farm, along with hundreds of farms all over the country, will host LEAF Open Farm Sunday 2019. It’s the farming industry’s annual open day and a fantastic chance for locals and visitors to the area to support British farming, learn about farming at first hand and see for themselves how their food is produced.

PLACE your bets on the grand Kenniford Farm piglet race, enjoy live music and devour a delicious hog roast as part of a host of fun activities at the farm’s open day.

Kenniford Farm, which is just a few miles from Exeter in Clyst St Mary, is opening its gates to the public as part of Open Farm Sunday.

As well as stalls, local beer and entertainment for all ages, there will be a chance to look behind the scenes at the farm, and meet the pigs - from the tiny newborn piglets to the fully-grown sows rolling in the sandy fields.

Racing piglets are highlight of open day

RACING piglets were one of the highlights of the attractions on offer at a Devon farm’s open day.

Hundreds of people attended Kenniford Farm, near Exeter, as part of Open Farm Sunday this weekend.

As well as the piglets, there was live music from La Vie en Rose, farm tours, stalls, and local food and drink.

One in three children have not heard a cow moo or a sheep baa up close

Hearing a real cow moo or a sheep baa for the first time is a special moment but a new survey of primary school children has revealed that this experience is becoming increasingly rare.

The results show that more than 1 in 3 children have never heard a sheep baa (37 per cent) or a cow moo (34%) up close, with thousands only experiencing it through their TV or computer screens. The survey, which was released ahead of this weekend’s Open Farm Sunday, revealed the disconnect many children have with farming and where their food comes from.
