Devon’s countryside charity begins its 2023 search for young artists

The Devon branch of the countryside charity CPRE is looking for budding young artists who can capture the beauty and variety of the county’s natural landscapes, from its wild moorlands to its sheltered river valleys.

Young artists aged 18 and under have until the end of September to submit a painting, drawing, textile, collage, or mixed media artwork of a Devon view to win the coveted title of Devon’s Best Young Landscape Artist 2023. The landscape could be a favourite beach or beauty spot, a local park or green space, somewhere visited on a day out or even the artist’s back garden...

The search begins for Devon’s Best Young Landscape Artist 2022

Young artists aged 18 and under can now compete for the title of Devon’s Best Young Landscape Artist 2022. Devon CPRE, a South West branch of the countryside charity CPRE, held the competition for the first time last year and was impressed with the quality and quantity of entries from across the county.

The charity is inviting budding young artists to showcase their creativity by capturing Devon’s unique and precious landscapes in the medium of their choice. There are two entry categories - one for teenagers and one for younger children - with cash prizes for the winners....

Painting by Exeter pupil triumphs in CPRE Devon’s county-wide primary school competition

A picture by young artist Ava Perkins from Clyst Heath Nursery and Community Primary School in Exeter has won first prize in this year’s ‘My Outdoors’ competition, organised by the Devon branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England.

The judges were so impressed by eight-year-old Ava’s painting entitled Dartmoor that they awarded her the title of ‘individual winner’ in Key Stage 2.

There were lots of commendations too for Exeter schools Willowbrook, Ladysmith, and Wynstream.

CPRE Devon launches competitions to celebrate nature and the countryside

The Devon branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England is inviting church communities and primary school children from across the county to enter competitions to celebrate some of the things that make Devon so special.

Dan Dickens, 60 from Exeter, has found a unique way of volunteering for local charity Hospiscare in one of their Exeter shops. Dan, a local artist, has bought his talents into a niche role at the South Street Shop (Exeter), which specialises in vintage and antique books, music, art and collectables.

Art with a laugh: Devon artist launches ‘WooHoo’, an art exhibition with a difference

An Exmouth-based painter who likes to have fun is bringing something new to Devon

in March 2018. Artist Anna FitzGerald is launching ‘WooHoo’, an exhibition focussed on art and performance which she describes as a 'week-long giggle'.

Art Exhibition "Wislist" by Winnie Chan at the Oddfellows Exeter

The exhibition explores Winnie’s vision of the capitalist world, viewing desirable commodities from different angles and often with a focus on textile products, in order to resist what she describes as her “shopaholic behaviour and temptation”. Winnie, who graduated from UAL/Chelsea College of Arts with an MA in Fine Art, paints her obsessions into her artworks.

The exhibition is curated by Julian McSweeney and Huanglu Shi for Artsalon+, and is being held in the atmospheric 1st floor room of The Oddfellows - Exeter, at 60 New North Road, EX4 4EP.
