Applications are now open for groups in Devon to apply for grants of up to £3,000.

Grassroots Grants up to £500, Connection Grants up to £1,000 and Action Grants up to £3,000 are available for projects that can prove they will have a positive impact on vulnerable young people and will help cut crime, especially anti social behaviour, substance abuse or school absenteeism.

Devon and Cornwall Police are supporting National Hate Crime awareness week and are appealing to victims of hate crime to come forward to the Police.

The week will highlight a variety of activities and events across the Force to raise awareness.

Hate crime is under reported generally and Officers want to encourage people to get in touch if they feel they are a victim of crime, even if there is no prosecution, so they can get appropriate support according to their needs.

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg has set out his plans for managing the likely £54m budget reduction faced by Devon and Cornwall Police. “With such an extreme budget reduction we will have to completely rethink the delivery of policing services in Devon and Cornwall.” said Mr Hogg “At this time, there is much that we do not know, but it is right that we start to plan so that important actions can be taken at the appropriate times.” The OPCC’s budget prediction is based on two key factors. Stay safe when using level crossings

British Transport Police (BTP) officers in the South West are urging the public to do their level best to stay safe when using crossings.

The call comes as they take part in the latest phase of Operation Look, a week of action (5–10 October), which will see extra patrols at a number of crossings.

BTP recorded more than 100 offences at crossings in the region during 2014/15, with 116 offenders identified and dealt with.

While the majority of those offences are committed by motorists, BTP officers also want to make sure pedestrians are aware of the dangers too....

Appeal following theft of marine equipment

Police in Exmouth are appealing for information following the theft of marine equipment.

The theft occurred sometime between Sunday 30th August and Saturday 3rd October when thieves removed a padlock from a boat moored in the river Exe estuary at Exmouth and stole equipment including a Honda outboard engine, an inflatable doughnut ring and fishing equipment, valued at £900.

Man stabbed outside Devon nightclub

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed several times outside a Devon nightclub on Sunday morning (4 October).

Police say the man received multiple superficial stab wounds as a result of a disorder outside the Crash Manor nightclub in Plymouth at around 5.30am.

The man was taken to Derriford Hospital, but later released after having received medical attention.

Police are appealing for witnesses and enquiries are ongoing.

Police warning after increase in dog attacks

Police in Devon, Cornwall and Dorset have been contacting local schools at the start of the new term, highlighting the need for dog safety.

Forcewide the number of people injured by dogs has risen sharply. In August 2014 there were 6 cases of a person being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury. In July 2015 that figure had risen to 63.

As a result of this police, in partnership withthe RSPCA and the Dogs Trust, are contacting primary schools and offering safety advice.

Exeter Local Policing team have launched their ‘Think Before You Park’ project in partnership with Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue and Exeter County Council Parking Enforcement.

The project is an exciting new multiagency initiative that aims to tackle problem parking, where drivers have parked anti-socially, without care or consideration for other road users, pedestrians and emergency service vehicles.

Warning following thefts in East Devon

Residents in East Devon are being warned to be vigilant after a series of thefts have been reported to police over the last few weeks.

Thieves have entered barns, garages and sheds in rural areas, surrounding Ottery St Mary, by removing the hinges or the padlocks and stolen items from inside including power tools, animal feed, animal bedding, fencing, petrol and small items.
