Child exploitation helpline launches

The ‘Say Something’ helpline targeted at children and young people with concerns about child sexual exploitation (CSE) has been launched this week. The new, free, 24/7 helpline number is: 116 000.

The helpline is run by the charity Missing People, in association with the National Working Group Network, and is funded by the Department of Education. Callers will be offered advice and, where appropriate, necessary or requested, access to the police to ensure protection and safeguarding.

Police search for pink paint vandal

British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for information after a vandal painted parts of the railway infrastructure in Exeter, causing £500 worth of damage.

A railway signal, ladder, junction box and 20 sleepers were all painted bright pink close to Polsloe Bridge station on Sunday, 14 June. Officers have now released a photograph of the scene and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward information.

CCTV appeal following sexual assault

Police have released CCTV footage following a sexual assault that took place in Teignmouth.

On Sunday 21 June at around 4.35pm a young woman, wearing shorts and an orange knitted top, was walking along Regent Street in Teignmouth when she was approached by a man who engaged her in conversation.

He asked her for a hug and is alleged to have touched her inappropriately, before she was able to push him away leaving the scene unharmed.

The man is described as being white, in his late 20’s early 30’s and about 5 foot 9 inches tall, medium build with long wavy blond hair...

Suspect packages 'not explosives'

Police have released images of the suspicious packages found on York Road and King William Street in Exeter yesterday (June 29th).

Two suspicious packages were discovered in the morning and led to evacuations in the area as the Royal Navy’s bomb disposal experts assessed and made safe the devices. The packages turned out to be suitcases filled with electrical equipment and wires, and not explosive devices.

Suspect packages made safe

Following assessment by bomb disposal experts, the devices found on York Road and King William Street in Exeter this morning, Monday, June 29, have been made safe.

The scene cordons on both King William Street and York Road are now being reduced to the immediate scenes of the incidents as a result.

Road closures around the city centre will begin to be lifted shortly, although traffic congestion in the run up to rush hour is expected to take some time to be cleared.

Police would like to thank all residents for their patience and co-operation throughout today....

Suspect packages: One device made safe

Following assessment by bomb disposal experts, the device found at King William Street in Exeter city centre found earlier this morning (Monday 29 June) has now been safely dealt with.

The device at York Road is expected to be dealt with later this afternoon following further assessment by bomb disposal.

The scene cordons on both King William Street and York Road are now reduced to 100 metres as a result.

Road closures around the city centre remain to ensure the matter can be safely resolved and the police led multi-agency response to the incident continues....

Police are advising motorists not to drive into Exeter city centre today as officers and bomb disposal teams examine two suspicious packages

Devices were found at York Road and King William Street in Exeter City Centre earlier this morning.

Cordons have now been put on both areas meaning some people are being evacuated from their homes and being taken to rest centres at Exeter Bus Station and St James Park football ground.

A full multi-agency response to the incident is now in progress involving police, bomb disposal experts, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue...

There were dramatic scene in Exeter city centre today after two suspicious packages were found in separate locations.

The first package was found in York Road, near Sidwell Street.

A second suspect package has been found at the King William Street Car Park in Exeter City Centre at around 9.15am today.

Exeter Daily reader Sam Richards captured the developments.

Two of the busiest arteries into Exeter were eerily quiet this afternoon after bomb disposal teams examined two suspect packages.

Sidwell Street and Longbrook Street are normally bustling with traffic but they were occupied by just a few individual police officers.

Cordons stretched across the entrances to both roads from New North Road.

Businesses were evacuated and people turned away in their droves.

Devon and Cornwall Police has today launched a week long awareness campaign encouraging people to protect their personal information.

The ‘Not With My Name’ campaign, produced in partnership with the City of London Police (National Policing Lead for Fraud) is targeting identity crime in our communities.
