Chiefs continue unbeaten home run

Exeter Chiefs 19 Gloucester 10

Thomas Waldrom finished top of the try pile for 2015 and the Exeter No.8 is hoping to replicate the feat this time round as his double helped the Chiefs to victory over Gloucester.

The free-scoring forward, who scored 16 touchdowns last season, took his tally to eight for this term with a first half brace that enabled Rob Baxter’s side to keep up their pursuit of Saracens at the top of the Aviva Premiership table.

Winger Olly Woodburn added a third score, while fly-half Gareth Steenson wrapped up the job with two conversions of his own...

Chiefs side to face Gloucester

It’s a common approach from Rob Baxter not to get carried away over his side’s fortunes. Whether it’s a win or whether it’s a loss, the Exeter Chiefs head coach is well versed in telling things as it is.

In the aftermath of his side’s 8-3 loss at Northampton Saints on New Year’s Day, there were no excuses from Baxter when he addressed the assembled media at Franklin’s Gardens. His honest approach that his side may have “stolen a point” was a frank assessment following what was a disappointing first outing in 2016.

However, as he readies his troops for their latest battle...

Northampton Saints 8 Exeter Chiefs 3

If 2015 produced some sparkling rugby from the Exeter Chiefs, then the New Year began with little fizz for Rob Baxter’s side as they slipped to defeat at Franklin’s Gardens.

Mike Haywood’s first half try, plus a penalty from Northampton fly-half JJ Hanrahan, proved sufficient enough reward for the Saints to see off Devon’s finest.

In a contest which failed to live up to all the pre-match hype, the scant consolation for the travelling Tribe on a miserable afternoon was that their side were able to at least grab a losing bonus point.

Gareth Steenson’s late penalty did...

Chiefs side to face Northampton Saints

Rob Baxter has warned his high-flying Exeter Chiefs side to prepare for a backlash of sorts from Northampton Saints ahead of today's (FRI) New Year’s Day clash at Franklin’s Gardens (3pm).

The East Midlanders crashed to their fourth Aviva Premiership defeat of the season last Saturday, going down 25-23 to previously winless London Irish at the Madejski Stadium.

At the same time, the Chiefs were notching up their sixth top flight win in seven starts, seeing off visiting Sale Sharks at Sandy Park as they maintained their pursuit at the top of defending champions Saracens....

Chiefs slip to opening day defeat

Bath 19 Exeter Chiefs 17 - Match report

George Ford put the disappointment of England’s turgid Rugby World Cup campaign firmly behind him as his return to club colours helped Bath kick-off the new Aviva Premiership season with a narrow victory over Exeter Chiefs.

The England playmaker’s 14-point haul – including a penalty two minutes from time – proved the key difference in a tight affair at the Recreation Ground. Ford edged out opposite number Gareth Steenson in the game’s key kicking duel and he was part and parcel of Bath’s one and only try, scored in the first half...

Chiefs side to face Bath

The waiting is finally over and months of hard work on the training fields will at last be put into action as Exeter Chiefs prepare to kick-off their latest Aviva Premiership campaign.

Buoyed by an unbeaten pre-season programme, which saw them lift the inaugural Westcountry Challenge Cup and defeat local rivals Bath and Gloucester, both home and away, it’s down to the nitty-gritty of league action that occupies the thoughts of Exeter head coach Rob Baxter and his squad this weekend.

Fresh from an impressive 43-16 success over Bath at the Recreation Ground last Saturday, the...

Premiership team draw for Exeter

Exeter City face a long journey in their League Cup second round game after being drawn against Premiership side Sunderland.

After overcoming League One side Swindon Town, the Grecians have landed a top tie with a potential pay day to match.

City beat Swindon 2-1 away from home. Goals from Alex Nicholls and David Wheeler handed the Grecians a 2-0 lead at the break, while Jonathan Obika pulled one back for the hosts in the second half.

After the game, manager Paul Tisdale said: "It was a fantastic win for us.

"I said to the players that sometimes, you have to...

Chiefs can expect punishing pre-season

Mark Twiggs says Exeter Chiefs players can expect to be ‘pushed to the limit’ during what will be a gruelling pre-season programme for the squad ahead of the new 2015/16 season.

With the Aviva Premiership set for a later start this term due to this autumn’s Rugby World Cup, the make-up of seasonal plans have been somewhat changed for all 12 top flight clubs in England.

Twiggs, who heads up the Strength & Conditioning department at the Chiefs, has spent much of the off season devising a structured training programme which he believes will ensure Rob Baxter’s team is in...

Chiefs v Sale match a sell-out

Tomorrow's Aviva Premiership encounter between Exeter Chiefs and Sale Sharks is a complete sell-out.

A crowd of over 12,600 is expected to pack into Sandy Park for the final home fixture of the season.

With Rob Baxter's side firmly in the hunt to grab one of the two remaining play-off spots, demand for tickets has gone through the roof with supporters desperate to be part of the match-day crowd.

It will mark the seventh time this season that Sandy Park has welcome a crowd in excess of 10,000 supporters.

The stadium itself will be open from 12:30pm with...
