One of the leading law firms in Devon and Cornwall has won two prestigious awards for its work, as well as reaching the shortlist for another national award. Stephens Scown LLP has won Property Law Firm of the Year and Deal of the Year at the Insider South West Property Awards 2014, which were announced at an event in Bristol on 16 October. Revenge eviction fears in South West

One in 11 renters in the South West have suffered health problems in the last year because rogue landlords failed to deal with poor conditions in their properties, newly released research shows.

The YouGov survey of more than 4,500 private renters across the country, commissioned by Shelter and British Gas, revealed that poor conditions were commonplace for renters. More than two fifths of renters said they had lived in a property with mould (44%) and damp (41%) in the past year, which can cause health conditions such as asthma and eczema. easyProperty, the latest venture from easyGroup, has turned to crowdfunding to help raise funds and change the face of the traditional estate agency market.

Founded by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the founder of easyJet and the property entrepreneur and industry veteran Robert Ellice, the company closed its pitch on equity crowdfunding platform Crowdcube at midnight after raising more than £1.4m – well over its original £1m target. The pitch attracted 358 investors with the biggest single investment of £200,000.

TV presenter, Nicki Chapman, who hosts the popular Escape to the Country programme will launch the first show homes at Exeter’s only retirement village, Millbrook Village on Saturday 6th September.

Forward thinking Devon Estate Agency Helmores has become the first to use a Multi-Rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to market their clients’ properties with stunning aerial footage.

Developer doubles sharers' accommodation

Exeter’s largest and most exclusive luxury student accommodation development, Dean Clarke Lofts, is doubling the amount of sharers’ accommodation available in a bid to meet demand from students looking to live in the lofts during the 2014-15 academic year.

Site manager Nathan Pyett from independent developer, C G Fry & Son has won a Considerate Constructors Scheme 2014 National Site Bronze Award.
