Devon stands out in World Cheese Awards

Devon cheese-makers have scooped top awards and again gained major recognition at this year’s World Cheese Awards, hosted in Newport.

The biggest ‘cheese-only’ competition in the world received a record-breaking 4,434 entries from 42 countries, as artisan cheeses were delivered by boat, truck, train and plane. The entries were blind-tasted by the most astute palates of cheese experts, food writers and buyers to determine if they were worthy of a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Super Gold award.

Mary Quicke’s family has been making cheese for generations. The cows at Quicke’s are grass-fed and she is certain that happy cows make more delicious milk. Best English cheese is from Devon!

Quicke’s Hard Goats’ Cheese collected the coveted Best English Cheese prize at the British Cheese Awards 2015 that took placed at the Royal Bath and West Show on 26th May.

Created at Home Farm in Newton St Cyres, Devon, Quicke’s Goats’ Cheese uses locally sourced goats’ milk and the same traditional cheesemaking methods that Quicke’s has perfected over the years. Matured for six months, the result is a pale cheese that has a wonderfully smooth, creamy texture and an almond finish.

Quickes' consistent quality leads to triple triumph

Following the World Cheese Awards on Friday - leading traditional clothbound Cheddar producer, Quickes, is celebrating winning three gold medals for their Mature, Extra Mature and Vintage Cheddars.

The latest achievements followed an intensive day’s judging that took place at Olympia London alongside 2014’s Good Food Show. There were more than 2,700 entries from all around the globe including cheese from Brazil and New Zealand. A panel of almost 250 cheese experts took part in the process of grading the cheeses and awarding medals accordingly.

Quickes continue their run of success

In what has been an incredibly successful year for the Devon based dairy - Quickes has been announced as recipients of this year’s Great Taste Awards much sought after gold stars. Quickes Traditional Hard Goats Cheese collected the highest accolade of three gold stars and the Mature Cheddar received one gold star.

Devon cheese makers' royal appointment

Award winning farmers and cheesemakers, Quickes were delighted to welcome two special guests to Home Farm in Newton St Cyres. The Earl and Countess of Wessex were present at an engagement to officially open Quickes Farm Kitchen as part of their tour of the region.

Leaves whirl off the trees, darkness comes early, the briefly lighter mornings darken too. The sun rises closer to the south, and at noon gets lower every day. A walk through the woods is a walk through lots of leaves, before they start breaking down to leaf litter. The last of the apples come off the trees, a rich cider smell rises, reproaching us for the apples we didn’t pick.
