A Family Evening with Michael Morpurgo at Ramm

RAMM’s chief patron, Michael Morpurgo, will be spending the evening of Friday 26 April with a packed audience at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum.

The award-winning author of War Horse , Private Peaceful and Adolphus Tips is a passionate supporter of museums and became RAMM’s chief patron in 2011. He has visited RAMM many times as a parent, grandparent and writer. In this family evening he will talk about his connection with and love of Devon, its people and landscape, and their place in his stories.

Mammoth tooth discovered in East Devon river

It’s not often you stumble across a 20,000-year-old mammoth tooth while carrying out a routine task at work, but that’s exactly what happened to Environment Agency officer Simon McHugh.

Simon was checking riverbank erosion near Newton Poppleford in East Devon when he noticed the massive molar sitting on the bed of the River Otter. Experts at London’s Natural History Museum have confirmed the unusual find as a mammoth tooth dating from the last Ice Age.

This City's Centre: Your Perspective

Exeter city centre residents are needed for an ambitious art project that will result in a video installation at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) this summer and provide inspiration for performances around the city later in the year.

The lead architect behind the ground-breaking plans for Exeter’s new Deaf Academy revealed the Design Team’s inspiration at an event at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum on Wednesday 6 March.

Professor Alex de Rijke, founding director of dRMM and Dean of Architecture at the Royal College of Art, explained how the award-winning architects use natural light, colour and space in their projects. RAMM receives donation of a scientifically valuable insect collection

Devon charity, the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, has donated a large collection of butterflies, moths and other insects to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery in Exeter.

The Conservation Trust oversees Paignton Zoo, Slapton Ley, Living Coasts and Newquay Zoo and the specimens were collected by Dr David Stradling, the former Chairman, who passed away in July 2012 after a long illness. His collection was started in the 1950s and includes specimens from the UK, Switzerland, Trinidad, Argentina and Botswana.

The young and young at heart are in for a memorable night at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) and the Cavern Club on Friday 15th February when the nine-piece band Smerin’s Anti-Social Club will be performing.
