Your opportunity to have your work in the children’s gallery on the RAMM website.

Produce your own picture inspired by one of RAMM’s paintings, drawings or prints currently on display.

10.30am-3.30pm.

All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults can watch/supervise for free. Some activities are messy so do wear clothes that can get dirty. If an activity is busy there may be a short wait.

Friends evening lecture: Devon’s Heroic Antarctic Explorers

Paul Davies, Chairman of Devon and Cornwall Polar Society, will give an illustrated talk about Antarctic Exploration, making special reference to Devon.

Many Devon men sailed with both Captain Scott and Ernest Shackleton. They played vital roles and endured great hardships. He will also focus on Devon landmarks and monuments linked to the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. Paul will celebrate the contribution of Devon men to these pioneering expeditions.

Virtual Vincenzo: RAMM’s Sodi Harpischord brought back to life

The Vincenzo Sodi 1782 harpsichord on display at RAMM is so delicate that it can no longer be played.

With the aid of the latest computer technology, Exeter’s Sound Gallery have re-created the entire keyboard as an interactive installation. Visitors are welcome to try out their keyboard skills and hear how a piece of music would sound if they were able to play it on the 231 year-old instrument.

Free drop-in: 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30 to 4.30pm.

Museums Go Global: The Worldwide Spread of Museums in the Nineteenth Century

The nineteenth century was truly the great ‘Age of the Museum’. Municipal museums in Britain sprang up after the 1845 Museums Act. But they were already being founded throughout the colonies of the British Empire. John Mackenzie, pioneer of the study of popular and cultural imperialism, will discuss why this was the case, what form some of these extraordinary museums took, what they tell us about the global spread of European culture, and the role this played in the development of national identities.

Family evening with Michael Morpurgo: From All Around the Year to War Horse

Michael Morpurgo, the award-winning author of War Horse, Private Peaceful and Adolphus Tips, is RAMM’s chief patron and a passionate supporter of museums.

He has visited RAMM many times as a parent, grandparent and writer. In this family evening he will talk about his connection with and love of Devon, its people and landscape, and their place in his stories.

Afternoon lecture: A Frozen Moment in Antarctica

West Country-based winner in the Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, researcher and ecologist, Mark Tatchell, will share his passion and fascination with the pristine Antarctic environment in a lecture building on his extensive experience of working as a wildlife guide on expeditions.

Through his photographs, he will explore the wildlife of this beautiful icy continent.

Complementing the Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition which is at RAMM until 2 June 2013.

Rathbones Spring Concert Series: Emma Johnson Clarinet & John Lenehan Piano

Emma Johnson has an international career as a soloist. She has performed across Europe, the USA and the Far East, as well as in Africa and Australia in venues such as the Kennedy Center, the Concertgebouw, the Louvre and the Barbican.

In Britain she has achieved particular popularity with her two discs on the Universal label, Voyage and The Mozart Album, which spent many weeks at the top of the Classical Charts. She is joined by her regular duo partner, the distinguished pianist John Lenehan.
