A special concert in aid of Charities supported by the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is organised by one of the south-west leading sea shanty crews Mariners Away.

The event features an evening of eclectic and original sounds of Devon brought to you by Mariners Away in collaboration with the highly talented Devon-born folk singer/songwriter Jim Causley, the immensely popular and original folk trio from Plymouth, Windjammer together with the internationally renowned and quite remarkable harpist Elizabeth-Jane Baldry.

Volunteers from across Exeter, East and Mid Devon and Cornwall will have the opportunity to take part in one of the world’s first Omicron-specific COVID-19 variant vaccine studies, as biotechnology company Moderna, Inc works with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

The innovative study, opening at the NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre: Exeter at Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust this week, will see participants receive a first or second booster.

One of the world’s first Omicron-specific variant vaccines is to be trialled in Devon and Cornwall, as the biotechnology company Moderna, Inc works with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

The innovative study will see participants receive a first or second booster. NDHT and RD&E a stage closer to formally joining together

Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust (NDHT) and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E) have received the go-ahead from NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSEI) to continue working on plans to formally join together.

In November 2020, both Boards approved a ‘Strategic Case’ which sets out how the Trusts propose to become a single integrated organisation and submitted it to NHSEI for review. A large global trial designed to test the theory that the widely used BCG vaccine might help protect against COVID-19 amongst healthcare staff and care home workers in the UK continues to recruit participants.

Loud cheers went up around the Devon Air Ambulance airbase at Exeter airport last Thursday, as their new Airbus H145 helicopter flew down the runway and settled onto the helipad – it was the first time this new generation aircraft had landed in Devon.

Steroid cuts death risk in some hospitalised patients with COVID-19

A cheap and readily available steroid which was part of a nationwide COVID-19 trial that included patients in Exeter has been found to reduce the risk of dying in patients admitted to hospital with the virus.

The University of Exeter and the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E) were collectively among 175 NHS hospitals signed up to the RECOVERY trial, coordinated nationally by Oxford University and delivered by the National Institute for Health Research, Clinical Research Network.

Exeter Rotary Clubs raise £5,070 for hospital appeal

The three Rotary Clubs in Exeter and Topsham have proved that 'we're all in this together', by donating an amazing £5,070 to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital's “HelpUsHelpYou” Appeal.

The money will go directly towards providing extra support and essential items for the wonderful key NHS staff.

Exeter Southernhay Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Exeter initially gave a donation of £1,900 to the Appeal.

Cancer specialists raising money for FORCE

Team Oncology raises more than £7,000 for FORCE

A team of cancer specialists from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has raised more than £7,000 for charity by doing laps of the Wonford site.

Eighty-six people took part in the challenge to run or walk two-kilometre circuits around the perimeter of the RD&E campus last week, before and after work and during their breaks.

They all joined in to raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity, which is still supporting local people affected by cancer during the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
