Devon dad to take on Great West Run for Exeter’s Neonatal Unit

Cullompton dad Shane Peters is set to take on the Great West Run this October in aid of the Neonatal Unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital as a thank you for the care they provided his son Raife.

Raife was born at the RD&E in early 2017 and spent four weeks being cared for on the specialist Neonatal Unit because he had water on his lungs. Now that Raife is healthy and has been discharged from hospital, Shane and his wife Kerry are keen to give something back to the unit which helped save their son’s life.

Kidney specialists at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital are putting on a series of public information events around Devon and Somerset about home dialysis treatments and the opportunities this can present for patients, including the ability to travel.

The events are being held in July in Torbay, Honiton, Barnstaple, Taunton and Exeter. Kidney patients, family members, carers and clinicians are invited to come along and meet the RD&E’s renal community team and current patients, including one person dialysing themself in a camper van with the transportable haemodialysis...

Unit 1 supports RD&E’s children’s Ward with £2,000 donation

The generosity of customers at Exeter’s Unit 1 Night Club has helped to fund a brand new blood pressure machine for the Paediatric Outpatients Department at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The club has raised almost £2,000 for the unit on Bramble Ward through the Echo Trust’s ‘Give a Kid a Quid’ campaign at key events and club nights throughout the year.

The favourite quotes and sayings of Chaplains who have served the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital over the last 21 years have been carefully crafted into a new piece of artwork for the hospital’s chaplaincy centre thanks to a donation from the League of Friends.

The new ‘Threads and Ripples’ tapestry, by renowned Devon textile artist Jacqui Parkinson, will be displayed on the wall in the chaplaincy centre to offer comfort and solace to those who choose to visit the space.

St Thomas Masons donate Spirometer to Bolham Ward

Patients on Bolham Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital are set to benefit from a new mobile machine to measure lung function thanks to a £500 donation by the St Thomas Masonic Lodge.

An Exeter healthcare worker says her life has been positively transformed since she took part herself in a clinical research study into high blood pressure treatment.

Two Medicine students at the University of Exeter Medical School are behind an upcoming book that aims to empower people with cancer by sharing their inspirational stories.

Students Bogdan Chiva Giurca, 23, and Navin Nagesh, 25, raised funds for a project to help people with cancer share their personal inspirational stories. They came up with the idea of a book written by people with cancer to inspire others affected by the disease.

A multi-trade craftsman at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has raised hundreds of pounds for local charities thanks to his unusual sci-fi hobby.
