Festive Frolics at Angela Court

Christmas is a magical time of year for all of us, and the staff at Angela court always try to make Christmas as special as possible for the residents that stay with them.

Throughout the festive season the residents have taken part in all number of activities, making Christmas tree decorations, singing carols, putting up their Christmas cards and of course partaking in much mince pie eating. A particular highlight was a visit from Willow the Donkey who went along from Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary.

Dramatic video captures storm in full force

Passing cars feel the full force of the storm and buildings are showered with water.

In another seaside town a car was blown onto its roof.

Emergency services in Teignouth were called out after the incident but luckily the driver wasn't seriously injured.

Kids to vote on £90,000 skate park facelift

East Devon District Council (EDDC), and the young people from Honiton Youth Centre and Honiton Community College have been working together to design £90,000 of improvements to Honiton skate park in Allhallows Field.

The £90,000 has come from the Council’s main budget and is being spent on Honiton skate park as it was judged to be the most in need of improvements in the district with many of the ramps at the very end of their life. The improvements have been requested by skate park users.

Work starts on beach defences for Sidmouth

East Devon District Council has announced the start of a 12 month project to create a new Beach Management Plan for Sidmouth – designed to maintain and improve the town’s coastal defences whilst enhancing the area as an attraction for beach-users.

The Council is to spend an estimated £75,000 on a data-collection and options appraisal aimed at producing maintenance and capital options that could attract funding from a number of sources, including the Government. The project is split into 5 stages: information gathering, baseline studies, issues, options and plan production.

New recycling centre for Sidmouth area

Devon County Council is officially opening its brand new state of the art Recycling Centre which will serve Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary and the surrounding villages. The gates will open to the public on Tuesday 10 December 2013 at 11.30am The facility replaces the old centre at Woods Farm which is now inadequate to meet modern demands. It is located about 300metres south of the old centre on the C808 road near Bowd between Sidmouth and Ottery St Mary. Pupils get a taste of council work in Sam ’n Ella’s kitchen

Forty pupils from local primary schools "took over" East Devon District Council for a day and had a go at running things.

They even got a ‘taste’ of the work done by EDDC’s Environmental Health inspectors when they visited Sam ’n Ella’s kitchen at Knowle in Sidmouth for a food hygiene check.

On Friday 22 November pupils from the following five schools visited the Council’s HQ to learn more about its services and meet Staff and Councillors:
