Scores face losing homes every day in SW

Every day, 36 households in the South West are at risk of losing their home, new analysis from Shelter reveals.

The research, based on data recorded by the Ministry of Justice found that in the past year more than 13,200 homes in the South West are at risk of eviction or repossession, the equivalent of 36 every day.

It also identified the latest hotspots across the region where people are most likely to face losing their home, with Weymouth and Portland and Gloucester topping the list. Other hotspots in the region’s top ten included Bristol, Bournemouth and Plymouth....

New research commissioned by older people’s charity Anchor, has revealed the South West is a region in denial about ageing.

More South West residents are comfortable asking for a divorce than looking at the care options available in later life.

Despite it being a life changing decision, six out of ten people in the region (60%) have never thought about care options for later life and seven out of ten people (73%) who would trust someone else to make care decisions for them, haven’t talked about their care options with that person.

Wiggins to race in Tour of Britain

Team Sky boss Sir Dave Brailsford says Sir Bradley Wiggins will attempt to retain his title at this year’s Friends Life Tour of Britain, which returns to Devon on Thursday 11 September.

Wiggins, who won the Tour de France in 2012 and won a silver medal in the team pursuit at the Commonwealth Games last month, will lead Team Sky at this year’s Tour of Britain, Brailsford confirmed in a BBC interview. Other riders who will be competing are expected to be named soon.

The corporate finance team at chartered accountants Francis Clark has been recognised as the leading financial adviser in terms of South West deal volumes.

The authoritative Experian Deals Review and League Tables H1 2014 study examines transactions including mergers and acquisitions, and equity capital markets completed in the first six months of 2014. It showed that league table topping Francis Clark was the most active deal adviser with 12 deals in the first half of the year, a third ahead of their nearest rival.

Survey reveals striking attitudes to sport

There has been a wealth of sport on the TV this weekend with the Wimbledon Finals, World Cup quarter finals and the British Grand Prix, but for many of us it’s as close as we come to taking any form of exercise.
