Steam evaporates from SW housing market

Greater caution appears to be being exercised across the South West housing market as price expectations hit the lowest level since April 2013, according to the latest RICS Residential Market Survey.

Although price momentum remains positive, and has been positive over the last three months – with 47 percent more respondents seeing a rise in prices, a more modest figure of 9% more chartered surveyors are predicting a rise in prices over the coming three months. £100m more for Green Deal Home Improvement Fund

Ed Davey has announced there will be a second phase of the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) totalling £100m.

Applications for the new phase of the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund, designed to help people make energy saving improvements to their home, will open to applications before the end of November. The Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) are looking to improve the initiative in light of issues arising from phase 1.

Region’s pay is rising at half the rate of the national average

There is a huge pay gap between workers living in the East and West of the South West region, with the people living in the East the best paid, earning up to £17,000 more than those living in the West.

That’s one of the findings of the ManpowerGroup Pay League, a new series of local insights into UK pay trends from ManpowerGroup, the world leader in innovative workforce solutions.

40-strong EDF team to take part in GWR

Almost 40 staff members from EDF Energy’s Gadeon House office in Exeter have rallied together and entered into Exeter’s Great West Run, taking place on Sunday 19 October.

The group hopes to raise £3,000 in aid of EDF Energy’s charity partner Marie Curie, with all the funds going to help Marie Curie Nurses provide more free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes and in the charity’s nine hospices. SW housing market ‘pauses for breath’

Demand for new homes in the South West fell in July, to the lowest level since October 2011, while the supply of new properties coming onto the market also decreased, according to the July RICS Residential Market Survey.

In the region, 7% more chartered surveyors saw a fall rather than rise in new buyer enquiries in July, with 16% more surveyors seeing a fall in new instructions – a decrease from a net balance of 0% last month.
