The largest Olympic-style youth sports event in the region has awarded its 20th anniversary finals to Teignbridge district for 2018. Dawlish is set to host the South West Rotary Youth Games finals on Saturday 7 July. The annual multi-sport event was launched as the Devon Youth Games in 1999 and has since expanded across the South West to include teams from Cornwall and every Devon District competing in 20 sports. Budleigh’s new sports activity wall ready for action

Versatile £15,000 sports wall will be an asset to town thanks to S106 contributions from property developers building in Budleigh

In a joint project run between Budleigh Salterton Town Council and East Devon District Council, a brand new £15,000 sports activity wall is now in place in the town.

Over 300 people in Budleigh Salterton originally had their say on how to spend money on outdoor sports in the town a couple of years ago – their priorities were for a new outdoor gym and foot/cycle path improvements for The Green. Both of these have happened now.

Tickets have gone on sale for the inaugural Great British Sports Show taking place at Westpoint Exeter over the weekend of 3-4 February 2018. The family orientated event will welcome up to 10,000 visitors who will have the opportunity to try over 30 different sports and meet stars from the local area.

The finalists for the prestigious 2017 Exeter Foundation Devon Sports Awards have been announced and all 30 are outstanding. To mark the 20th year of the awards there are some exciting new categories and the finalists include people from all aspects of community sport from coaches and volunteers to sportspeople from a really diverse range of sports.

Olympics-inspired Disability Sports Festival in Exeter

CEDA is running a disability sports festival inspired by the Rio Olympics, and in anticipation of the Paralympic Games.

The event will offer disabled people the opportunity to try some of the most popular athletic events including throwing, running, wheelchair racing and jumping.

CEDA, a charity who work with disabled people in Devon, are working in partnership with the South West Athletics Academy to put on the festival at Exeter Arena.

Exeter College athletes celebrate success

More than 80 Exeter College athletes played their part in the South West being crowned the victors at the Association of Colleges Sport National Championships.

The students competed across a range of different sports representing the South West alongside a number of other colleges – with Exeter College student Vicky Prouse one of the team captains.

Athletes, coaches and volunteers from across Devon were celebrated at Sandy Park at the Exeter Foundation annual Devon Sports Awards in association with Active Devon and in partnership with Exeter College.

Olympic trials ahead for two Exeter swimmers

A gold in the 200m butterfly and 100m backstroke last weekend resulted in two Exeter swimmers gaining a place in next months Olympic trials in Glasgow.

Dominic Wooldridge and Liam White, who both swim for Exeter City Swimming Club, got the times at the Level 1 Wycombe swim meet on Sunday.

This is the first Olympic trials that 17 year old Liam, who is a backstroke specialist, has qualified for with 20 year old Dominic already qualifying for the 100m butterfly in last years summer National Championships.

Members of the Conservative Group on EDDC and Exmouth Town Council saw for themselves how work is progressing on the new £1.2 million Mamhead Slipway when they visited the project on Monday (7 March). The first task of contractors Raymond Brown Construction Ltd is to clear the Mamhead Gardens area to the side of the existing slipway, which will allow towing vehicles and trailers to manoeuvre, making access to the new ramp easier.
