Sounds of the summer at Knightshayes

Knightshayes is hosting its third annual celebration of local food and music in the parkland on every Sunday during August. These are free events for the whole family.

Soupstock was started in 2013 as a way to help new audiences discover Knightshayes. The aim was to put together an event to complement the local food served in the café, much of which is sourced from Knightshayes’ kitchen garden. The rolling Devon hills and the gothic stables block form the backdrop to this popular event.

Exeter Uni celebrates summer graduation

A Lord, a Nobel Prize winner, a BAFTA winning playwright and a European athletics gold medallist will be amongst those honoured at the University of Exeter’s summer graduation this year.

In total, 15 special guests will receive an Honorary Degree and the CSM Trust will be inducted into the College of Benefactors as part of the celebrations at the Streatham campus in Exeter and in Truro Cathedral for the Penryn Campus in Cornwall.

Your pet may have a drink problem!

With summer in full swing, pet owners from Exeter show a surprising lack of awareness when it comes to their pet’s hydration and are happy to let them drink puddle water, milk and even the nation’s favourite brew – tea. A survey carried out by pet product expert, PetSafe®, to raise awareness about the importance of pet hydration, has found that over 6 in 10 (60%) of Exeter pet owners are unclear about how much water to give their pets to drink. Summer Budget 2015: key announcements

The Chancellor has presented his Summer Budget to Parliament today. Here is a summary of what was announced:

1. Introducing a new National Living Wage of over £9 an hour by 2020

From April 2016, a new National Living Wage of £7.20 an hour for the over 25s will be introduced. This will rise to over £9 an hour by 2020.

2. The government will run a surplus in 2019-20

Exeter’s Summer Film School will be held at Poltimore House from 3 – 7 August.

It offers children aged between 10 and 13 a unique opportunity to create their own short film. They will be supported in this task by skilled and experienced film and theatre professionals including Exeter based theatre company Four of Swords and shooting on location at the incredibly magical and atmospheric Poltimore House.
